prince said in a rolling stone interview in 1985 that he loved 'the hissing of summer lawns' didn't he?

As for my favorites of Joni.it's Blue and Hejira.. Blue ofcourse has the gem 'a case of you' which is just about one of the best songs ever...Prince version ofcourse is good as well....Hissing i do not really like..just do not really get it...sorry bout that..wink

much as i love "a case of you", i think that "the last time i saw richard" is probably my favorit

joni song ever. in fact, it would end up very high on my top 10 songs of all time by anyone list.

it just doesn't get much better than that.

That song is so beautiful and melancholic. I ´ve just listened to it on FB because a friend posted it.

" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

This version of "Edith and the Kingpin" from her 1980 live album, Shadows & Light easily trumps the one on Hissing. It just came on my iPod and Jaco Pastorius kills it on bass.

And The Seeds of Hissing Lawns is comprised of demos from the original Hissing sessions. I haven't checked it out, but it has been getting a lot of talk from Joni fans for a while now. Have you checked out her 1980 live album, Shadows and Light?

Bought it, but haven't listened to it yet, live albums are the least played ones in my Ipod, and the only times I play are when I get a full understanding of the artist. I might check it out tonight when I get off work though, I've been hear plenty of good things about it.

And you should def check Seeds as soon as you can nod I was on the fence about the album until I heard its acoustic version.

hmmm

I dunno whether it was the dark time in my life when I first started exploring Hissing, or the whole urban malaise aesthetic of the project, but this album has always had a seedy, back-alley feel to me -- like the sort of head space to which the sex, drugs and socialite culture of the '70s in the big city might send you. And there's such pain in it.

I'm more removed from that space as I get older, but the album still serves me well when I want to wallow in some dark mood.

Boy, it sure is never dull talking about Joni's music, simply because so far, people relate differently toward her music(or toward music in general, isn't it?).

See, Hissing is exactly the opposite of dark to me, now there're some solemn & melancholy moments here there, but on a larger scale there's a lot of hope between the lines/notes.

There's a lot of hope and courage to tackle the unknown in Hejira as well(at least, thats what I got from it) but this album has more of solitariness,,,,,,,I wouldn't call it dark though, just beautifully hunting.

Now her 80s albums are dark, angry and extremely confrontational.
