I'm familiar with Charlie's drama but I'm speaking about the music.

It has lost something...............I just can't put my finger on it.

Cosign. Weird thing to me is....his voice sounds fine...good as ever. All his solo joints from '92 on have just lacked that same "wow factor" he had in GAP.

Even the music itself hasn't been terrible. I'm with you, Gray...a bit mystified what's lacking.

I agree it is not the voice.

I've made my peace with this shit, Gray shrug

I'm content with what he & Uncle Ron already put out in their lifetime, they can act the fool and I'll still go back to their old stuff. Its like watching Robert De Niro in The Fockers, you know too damn well he's TOO good to be in that mess but it seems like he doesn't have the need to prove himself and can afford to be goofy.

I agree. I really like Charlie's voice, but I think his record company is making him go down this tired road. All they care about is getting ONE (maybe two) hits from a cd. The rest can be just garbage.

I remember when his new album came out, he was on Steve Harvey and Tom Joyner. He kept telling people to "go get it if you are a real r&b lover." I kept thinking that it must be bad because he would not keep begging people to buy this crap.

From what I've heard, every last bit of his solo music has been sellout bullshit.

For the last 2, that's an understatement.

I actually liked the "Charlie, Last Name Wilson" album. Maybe it's because R. Kelly oversaw the project.

When Lakeside was in my city a few years ago performing at one of the outdoor festivals, the lead singer did an interview on the radio with one of the local DJs. Apparently, Lakeside either had a new album out or were going to release a new album at that time. What trips me out is he said...."The new album has got everything the old Lakeside albums have. It's got a lot of smooth soul and some nice ballads. It sounds like Lakeside updated for the 2000s".....

I kept thinking to myself, oh really? Well, if it's got everything the old Lakeside albums have, then where the living hell is the motherfucking FUNK? And as for it souding like Lakeside updated for the 2000s, that's all I needed to hear right there to instantly let me know it was a bunch of bullshit on the album. That's the problem with these old artists right there, they are selling out to today's sound. Instead of giving in to it, try to stomp and snuff it out.

Luckily for you, I don't think it was ever released. If I see Fred Alexander around town (which I do sometimes because we don't live too horribly far from each other), I will ask him about the new album.
