We better cool it. She is a kid and there are bad people out there. She could get actually bullied and we wouldn't want that, beyond some dumb song.

I haven't heard the song but I read the lyrics. Obviously this is NOT to be taken seriously. lol But I can see some jokers buying it on iTunes like Antoine Dodson's song. lol

You HAVE to hear the song. If you think that just by reading the lyrics, wait until you actually hear it. lol

On another note, this girl is only in 8th and she's having all kinds of people telling her to go die and kill herself and stuff like that. I don't like the song either, but I don't want an 8th grade girl to die just for making a song I don't like. Some people are pathetic.

Fascinating just how QUICKLY things can go from annoying...to funny...to not-so-funny...to potentially tragic, circa 2011.

lol What little I know about this child is good enough for me. I mean REALLY. They're signing everyone these days. I heard three seconds of her song because some morning show had her on there. It was either NBC's early morning show, or CBS. In any case, it's totally for the kids and my old lady ears are PLUGGED. :-j Come now, let her relevance fade.

Surely, the front seat/back seat dilemma is actually not hard to resolve, given that the front seat is clearly taken. confuse

Are we to assume that she was actually contemplating whether or not to displace the young friend already riding shotgun to satisfy her own (rather capricious) seating preference? That seems quite rude - and it may even be suggestive of a narcissistic personality disorder.

Unless the question of whether to kick it in the front seat or chill in the back seat is actually a metaphor for the serious existential dilemma about whether one should be active and bravely attempt to steer one's own course through life, treating adversity as a matter of obstacles to be overcome; or if one should adopt a more passive approach, accepting the inherent powerlessness of human beings in the face of forces we can barely understand, let alone control, and simply try to enjoy the ride.

Bit like Hamlet, really.

Somehow I managed to sit through this video myself and I noticed at the label showcase there was a special recorded message from Quincy Jones.... I don't understand how a guy who worked with such greats as Michael Jackson and Frank Sinatra would want to be associated with the people who brought us....... Rebecca Black. confused

Didn't I tell people in this thread that Quincy was a senile hipster? He's supported dopes for a good hot minute. lol

I've been sayin' that shit since 2008 lol

disbelief Well I guess we better get used to it cuz it looks like this is the future of music.

"Rebecca Black's 'Friday' rakes in an estimated $200K. Fun fun fun fun."

rebecca-black-friday.jpgHere's yet another one for all the Rebecca Black haters:

Mock her idiotic "Friday" YouTube viral video sensation (see, we do) all you want, but guess who's getting the last laugh? Black. Or, umm, her producers at Ark Music Factory. Or maybe her mom.

Forbes magazine estimates that "Friday" has netted Black at least $20,000 from its 30 million-plus YouTube hits alone.

And with the $.70 per single downlowd iTunes pays to distributors -- at an estimated 300,000 downloads -- that's another potential $210,000 for the college fund. And that's not even including downloads from Amazon.com, CDBaby and ArkMusicFactory.com.

Not a bad return on her mother's $2,000 investment.

So her family had to pay for the song to get done? That's what I was suspecting when I first saw the video. It looked like some sort of a gift from her parents to her - the parents hiring a production company to get her song recorded professionally and make a video for it.

The reason why it's getting laughed at is that it sounds like a kid's attempt at writing a pop song while the production values are up to professional standards. That's what it is exactly. Had it been just a couple of kids making the music with garageband and shooting the video with their own cameras nobody outside their circle of friends would have paid any attention to it.

$2,000 isn't that much though, so maybe the company also put their own money into it as well. Perhaps the ridicule still works as a good reminder that even with something as flimsy as pop music you'll have to first learn the trade and not simply pay your way through.
