I have to say, my Sassy collection needs ALOT of work. I only have the "Young Sassy" boxet along with, "Swingin' Easy", "With Clifford Brown" and "The Land Of Hi-Fi" set.

Clearly not a collection that displays her versatility, maybe you could give some notes, Ms.Trina.

BTW, this boxet of 10CDS will be released in March. I'm not sure about the packaging, and I'm not sure about consistency of the songs dated(spotty tracklist and you could tell that there're many songs missing from the same dates).

LOVE her rendition of this. There's a studio version of the song from Mercury thats absolutely a KILLER! The version I'm talking about sounded like she was trying to direct the band, give them afew ideas on what she wanted from them to play. I think its from 1955, if I'm not mistaken.

how high the moon and send in the clowns are two of my favourite songs of all times... sarah vaughan is always so amazing. and her tribute to ella fitzgerald (who is my favourite vocalist of all times) is astounding.

faint two days of smelling sauce has brought me too. I'm OK now, thank you for asking. wink lol

Anywho. . . .

Kind of Vaughan

I'm not feelin' this box-set. These types of comprehesive views of an artist work can be tricky in terms of getting "rights" but the songs selected for Ms. Vaughan's box-set is underwhelming. No, not all her albums are essentials but they've left so much out. confused If I was just starting out listening and/or purchasing her music, I'd pass on this box-set. Yes, the tracklist is spotty for example, the "Live Chicago disc"? That's Vaughan at Mister Kelly's, the original album had a total of 9 songs, upon re-release, the entire recording session of that night, 18 songs totaled were on that album but yet they have 12 songs from the session. The only good thing I see here is, her recordings by George/Ira Gershwin Vol. 1 & 2, an essential if you're a fan. Not Holiday, Fitzgerald, McRae, or Washington could touch Sass's recordings. (IMHO) The RSK website, didn't list the song's she recorded on 78's for the years of 1944-47 & 1946-47 when she appeared as a guest for one big band or other. I'm not sure why they selected "Dreamy" it's OK, but she recorded about 6/7 album for the Roulette label that are excellent, the same can be said for the Quincy Jones selections. The last Cd, "The Broadway Songbook", this is an example of how The Divine One could "strangle" a song, the arrangements are sub-par and I didn't like the song selection. From what I can gather this 10 CD box-set has couple songs here and there on each CD, that's not good enough when you're going to spend some bucks. The early stuff looks good / fine, but after you pass the Gershwin stuff, it's hit and miss. neutral

This would be OK, if you own Sarah Vaughan's essential disography, if you wanted to hear almost everything she recorded from start to finish. But that's my opinion, it ain't golden. Here's what I'd like to see if I could do a box-set of Sarah Vaughan music. Most of these works should be in print and found via Amazon, iTunes, and eBay.

1944 Sarah Vaughan - Music Jazz

1946 The Divine Sarah Vaughan (Mecury)

WOW! I'm just really discovering Sarah. Although I had heard of her many, many years ago - we're from the same hometown and the street that the New Jersey Performing Arts Center is located is named after her - I just really started listening to her. I heard her rendition of "Yesterday" and it blew me away. She's awesome.....to say the least. This is a great post.
