Recommend me some Ike and Tina Turner OK, I think it's fair to say that Ike and Tina have one of the most confusing discographies in popular music and it can be very difficult to know where to start. I tried this a few years ago and picked up Proud Mary-The Best of Ike and Tina Turner, Funkier Than a Mosquitos Tweeter and The Soul Anthology but there are still some big holes there with most of the '60s unrepresented. So, what should be my next purchase?
I'm also interested in Ike's solo stuff from the '50s-'70s. Are there any good/great albums or are compilations the way to go?
I thought that after Ike passed that there would be a slew of reissues and that their back catalog would be somewhat simplified but so far that hasn't happened.

Their compilations are better than their albums IMO. This one is the best retrospective,,,

And this is my fave album from them.... [img:$uid]http://image.kazaa.com/images/54/724353322854/Ike_And_Tina_Turner/WorkinTogether/Ike_And_Tina_Turner-WorkinTogether_3.jpg[/img:$uid]
And this one includes the legendary "alleged" first Rock N' Roll epic, "Rocket 88" among other songs. [img:$uid]http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51Dtg8nD2oL._SS400_.jpg[/img:$uid]
I have no idea about your musical tastes, but if you like guitarists, you'll love this set.... [img:$uid]http://place1.dyndns.org/music/files/images/detailed/342638.jpg[/img:$uid]
The man is one of the most underrated guitarists ever.

Thanks for all the recommendations. I recently stumbled over this set:
http://www.amazon.com/That-Kat-Sure-Could-Play/dp/B0041CNAK0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1299789186&sr=1-1
It looks like it covers Ike's solo years circa 1951-1957 and features 4 discs and over 100 songs for a very reasonable price. I would guess that the packaging is minimal but for that price I am willing to roll the dice.

There are like so many dozens of Ike & Tina compilations out on the market, it's obsurd!
I have found that most of the compilations have a heavy concentration on their 60's material while not enough on their 70's material. There's a lot of that which remains unreleased. You just have to kind of research the track listings and go from there. I would recommend the following discs because they don't have the redundent track listing that most of the others seem to have:
Ike & Tina Turner Greatests Hits Volumes 1 thru 3. They feature songs that most people are not so familiar with and has Tina doing some of the finest R&B/Soul singing I've ever heard.

Some of my favorite not-so-well- known songs are:
Sexy Ida Parts 1 & 2 I'd Rather See Him Dead Dear John Driftin' (Blues) Early One Morning Use Me (A funky remake of the Bill Withers song) Tina's Prayer (or Tina's Wish) Working Together Fun Fun Fun Up To Something If You Want It Sugar, Sugar Chicken Humpty Dumpty No More Doggin
