Why didn't Jermaine perform MORE of HIS hits?

Lmao he wasn’t even part of the Jackson roster when that song was hot. You saw how happy they looked in the video they were happy Jermaine wasn’t there.

I wonder who the drummer is in the 1st video. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Because most of Jermaine's hits aren't on the level as The Jacksons' hits.

dear lord, that was painful... the ORIGINAL is better than jermaine's version:
i do love that people, despite all the information out there, still believe that it was the AMERICAN michael jackson who wrote this. i happen to like both versions- this, and the jacksons' version. i like this one better in a way, because it's got more of that laid-back jazz-rock groove. the version on 'destiny' (even though i like it) is not one i play a lot, in comparison to the other tracks. why is he performing songs that he wasn't even on, in relation to his brothers? i get that he wants to honor his brother, but there's something very disturbing about it. perhaps it's just me, but i don't see any positive intent in what he's doing. he's still basing what he does on his brother, as opposed to having faith in himself and his own talents.

He wasn't even with the group when they made that song.
He makes my asshole just wanna shit! Andy is a four letter word.

BTW, did you know that it was Joseph Jackson's idea for his sons to do a cover version?!?

I see in Jermaine a defeated man. Someone who had potential to do his own thing but always felt short in comparison to Michael (and his other brothers). It seems of all of them, even Randy, Jermaine sticks out like a sore thumb in the family. Compared to his other brothers, Jackie, Tito, Randy, Marlon and Randy are doing real good on their own.

I've heard, which is strange considering he seems to take credit (with Michael) on having his sons have their own creative freedom.

That women's got a nice voice. Jermaine is so boring to watch. "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

Maybe if he played Bass Live along with the track and slapped that thing, it would've been nicer.

I agree with this! Jermaine is one of those artists that at times looks akward without an instrument. Jermaine's true talent is to be able to play the bass at the same time as he sings. Many singers can take a couple of chords on the piano or the guitar along with their vocals but I've not seen many people sing and drive the song with funky basslines the way Jermaine does. This is pretty hard because the bassplayer and the drummer are the musicians who foremost maintains the rythm of a song and to do this and sing lead at the same time is rythmically challenging. And Jermaine is no slouch on the bass either. He is actually pretty funky. He doesn't just play straight basslines like Paul McCartney etc. Jermaine plays in the afroamerican, funky as well as Motown, James Jamerson, Nathan Watts style of playing so to speak.

Yeah. Jermaine is a great bassist. Definitely influenced by Jamerson.

Leave it to me to NEVER pass up a Jermaine thread for a chance to ribb him.
I can't take issue with him on this, self-serving? Maybe. Michael was Jermaine's brother and I'm sure Michael passing has been painful; I'll assume Jermaine wants to keep his memory alive for himself and possibly others. I really was expecting to hear something really, really bad but his cover of "Blame It On the Boogie" wasn't all that bad, to me. It's Jermaine. To Timmy's point, yes he should sing his own songs as well, Jermaine's discography is worthy.

I can usually defend Jermaine musically because he's a good singer and bass player with a respectable discography of his own but those two performances were way below par.
Jermaine is what I'd call "self defeating" in that he's had many opportunities to carve out a niche for himself and be successful in his own right, but he could never get past wanting to be Michael and have what Michael had. He's defeated because then and now he refuses to accept that he lacks that intangible "it" factor, which distinguishes stars from super-stars.
If he were less delusional and more practical like Tito, he could have earned a respectable living. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

And before Michael, Jermaine was trying hard to be the company's new Marvin Gaye because Marvin had fallen out with the company (and with his wife, Anna Gordy, Berry's sister) but Jermaine failed in making that work so the "Prince of Motown" title was never really taken from Marvin.

True, and I also think that Jermaine's work ethic or lack thereof was a factor as well. There is no way he could even consider reaching Marvin's level because he always wants to enjoy the fruits without the labor. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

I'm afraid we're gonna still be on this board ten years from now and Jermaine still won't have a solo album out again or go out on tour and at this rate, he'd probably be lucky if he even survives the tenth year. He's almost 60 now.

He'll still be around in 2020 promising future Jackson 5 reunions that will never see the light of day.
I can't wait for 2019 he he tries to create a J5 50th Anniversary tour and album. PRINCE: Always and Forever
