Rick Springfield I just got done reading his autobiography, "Late, Late At Night". Y'all should check it out even if you're only a casual fan. He's had a really interesting life.
What are your favorite songs of his (aside from Jessie's Girl)? Some of mine would be:

Well where can i start with this sky besides he is one of the most overlooked artists of the last 30 years. people sometimes dont realize how "hot" Rick was during 1981-1988, and im talking charting, Rick charted 16 Top 40 hits during that time, 15 of them coming between 1981-1985, and yet some people think he was a one hit wonder, but what they dont realize is that Ricks charting started in 1972 with "Speak To the Sky" not in 1981 with "Jessies Girl" Speak to the Sky was a huge hit, going top 15 here. Alot of what i feel Rick's best work has come since his return to music in 1998, though his early days were amazing too, over the last 13 years he has had some stellar albums and has been a constant on tour and giving back to a very loyal fan base, Prince could learn ALOT from this mans website and products that he offers to fans. but thats another issue

To me the albums KARMA,ShockDenialAngerAcceptance, and Venus In Overdrive are about the 3 best album run in QUALITY of all time for anyone, im still playing these records straight through, at 61 this guy plays with more heart and energy and anger and emotion that a 21 year old punk kid that should be fucking angry. I have seen Rick close to 20 times in concert basically that ranks with Prince on my concert experiences and i never get tired of Rick.
The Book is great NO BS straight honesty, as u can see im a big follower of the man, mainly because he has always been an honest performer and person. Thanks lastdecember!!! I agree, Rick is definitely crazy under-rated.
The one hit wonder stuff pisses me off, like when he mentioned about Oprah inviting him to be part of some show she was doing about one hit wonders, like WTF?
There's a few tracks on your list I haven't heard so I will be tracking those down. I need the ShockDenialAngerAcceptance album. I don't have that one. Venus In Overdrive is killer! Proof that not all artists lose their passion or ability even after being in the game for such a long time.
I'm not so much into the "Beginnings"/"Comic Book Heroes"/"Mission Magic" era. As he mentioned in the book, it's definitely clear that there was label pressure for him to be "the new David Cassidy", that teen-pop stuff doesn't appeal to me as much.
I forgot to put "Spanish Eyes" on my list, I only heard that one recently and it was awesome to hear since it's the early version of "Don't Talk To Strangers".
I need to see him in concert! I hope that I'll be able to do that later this year, I peeped the website and wow! He certainly knows how keep his fans engaged and provide so many varities of awesome content in different forms. Looks like there's some California dates coming up in a time-frame in which I might be in Cali.
Definitely agreed on the book - I was actually surprised at just how candid it was in parts, his honesty is refreshing to read, you don't often get that with musicians writing their autobiographies. He never made excuses for mistakes he's made like his infidelities and such, and you can always feel that this person is 100% REAL, there's no pretense, no facades.
I really need to get hold of some of this limited edition stuff! I'd been a fan for a while prior to reading the book, but only a casual one. Since then I've been tracking down the lesser known stuff, I'm definitely a BIG fan now! |

Yeah you should also track down on youtube a recent interview he did on the Q radio show (btw that interviewer is the best at interviews, everyone hes done is stellar) for the book. Good Stuff.
In concert the energy is amazing, i really look at him and go this guy is 61! No way, someone is either lieing or he sold his soul, but he is in great shape, healthy, energized, and it transfers to his shows.
yeah def track down the LTD stuff, a few left on his website, really cool, i remember when they came out doing threads on here about them, and it was a cool thing he did, bonus cd and some times dvd, extra tracks plus you got a numbered and signed cd, he only did 3500 of them for the "day after yesterday" and "Shock Denial Anger" and also the "Alive" greatest hits live cds, wished he did one for Venus however he does have about 4 versions of that album circulating, one version has "who killed rocknroll" and "my generation" on it, one has "jessies girl" acoustic, the itunes version has a great track "Pretty Little Mess" and another has a reggae version of "celebrate youth", so Rick is by no means slowing down, he is already almost done with a new record.
Def track down "Shock" that album is freaking angry! thats all i can say, alot of anger in that record, very raw on alot of tracks, just great rock songs, about 3 minutes long, great hooks, but very hard edge, kind of like the "working class dog" album but with alot of anger!
As for the early era, im not crazy about it, i do think there were a few cool songs in the the re, "Speak to the sky" is funny now, because no one can believe thats him.
And the one hit wonder thing was a slap in the face to him, he has since done the Oprah show but as he said it came at a real bad time, he was going through some tough shit, it was around 1997 i think, and he said he gets this call to do a one hit wonder show, not cool!
