Import only five CD box set containing a quintet of original albums from the Funk legend: Ahh...The Name Is Bootsy Baby!, Bootsy? Player Of The Year, Stretchin' Out In Bootsy's Rubber Band, This Boot Is Made For Fonk-N and Ultra Wave. Warner. 2010.

They're basically reissues of the US releases. No remastering or anything. But it's nice to have two post-Bootsy? The Player of the Year releases on CD, as they're long out of print. [Edited 3/10/11 0:20am] Check me out and add me on:

So this package is similiar to the Chaka Khan 5-CD set,I guess.Do you know if there are liner notes with the CDs?

They come in cheap slipcovers with no liners or booklets. Just a case and the CDs. A flimsy package just like the others in the series. Check me out and add me on:

Bootsy Collins
also a few other sets might make the cut, as soon as my budget is balanced again Vanglorious... this is protected by the red, the black, and the green. With a key... sissy!

I agree. I brought the Chaka Khan package just for her out-of-print, self-titled 1982 album and I was glad I had it because I couldn't find it no where. You can't beat having a package with worthy albums, even though they aren't remastered. Check me out and add me on:

Those sets are great value. There's also the Original Album Classics series which usually do feature remastered sound and sometimes include bonus tracks.
Tons of great buys:

It's kind of a case of you get what you pay for but it's an easy and cheap way to get some great music.

Honestly, the first time I got one of those sets I was a little disappointed with the packaging. However, that disappointment vanished very quickly once I started piling up on them and realising how much more bang for the buck they deliver.

Well a first . . . . I didn't order something Soul's had posted.

I was considering getting the Slave set but I'm reluctant because it's missing their 1981 album 'Showtime'

I have each of these 5 already on CD, and I have all of them on vinyl, plus I have 2 of them on cassette, and I have 1 on 8-track tape, lol. I was excited when I first saw this box set when it came out, until I quickly noticed it wasn't remastered. The only thing this set would offer ME is a lighter wallet, lol.
I really think they missed an opportunity by not remastering this set.

..... for 12.95.
Nah, I already have these albums. I haven't listened to Bootsy's music in years. I not sure why but I'm not all that interested. Do you ever get that way about an artist?

yeah,I know what you mean.Surprisingly,I never had any of Bootsy's albums before....just a really good 'Best Of' CD and the occasional song on a funk compilation.

true, but I'm happy to have it nonetheless

That's great brother, I didn't mean to imply that you shouldn't be happy with it. I only meant to answer the question "Did anyone get this?" by explaining why I didn't.
I think it's a 'must have' for a music lover like yourself, being that you've only previously owned the "Best of..." Bootsy. Enjoy those great jams that you didn't get to hear before.

Funny you should mention that, I've mentioned that very same thing about Bootsy on several threads here. I'm a hardcore, long time, fan of Bootsy, but probably listen to the more recent stuff he's done with Bill Laswell more than I listen to his first 5 albums.
Something about Bootsy has turned me off in recent years, and I don't know what that is or what happened exactly. I saw him back in '78 (...maybe it was '77) when he literally blew the roof off the Charlotte Civic Center in North Carolina - Bootsy was sued and several concert-goers got rushed to the hospital when at the end of the show Bootsy's Rubber Band set off this huge explosion. When the smoke cleared, so was the stage, lol. Bootsy arrived on stage in a puff of smoke, and he left in a giant explosion!
Since then, I've seen him 3 or 4 more times in concert in various parts of the country over the years. Even got to meet him when he played here in NY at a club called TRAMPS on 21st St (...no longer there). Hell, I was even his "friend" on MySpace when I had an account there.
So I don't know what happened, but I know what you mean when you ask "Do you ever get that way about an artist?". Yes, I do.

I think it's only natural. There are only so many hours in the day and there is so much music out there, it's impossible to squeeze everything in. The good thing is that you can always return to an old favourite and if you take a long break it adds a bit of freshness when you do revisit them.
