1. Remember my thread from 2005 when we discuss Dre's 4 difference career eras?:

THIS^ is worth revisiting.
2. And lets not forget how Dre admitted his musical crimes:
He said "slow was better".

Did he REALLY do the beats? Or did he..............."do the beats"?

Then he gets my props for that.
But I know Danja has done a shit ton of stuff for Dre with Dre's name on it.

Come on, all the beats for N.W.A. , The D.O.C. and Eazy-E were Dre himself, who the hell else would have done them. When he was on Death Row he had some help from Warren G and Daz probably but still look at their work after Dre and you'll see the difference in quality is huge. The only Daz beats that can somehow compare to the ones on the Chronic and doggystyle are the ones on Dogg Food but the album was mixed by Dre and featured him behind the scenes for sure.

Most of these responses here are overrated to be honest, LOL, "Dre is WAY overrated smh", Dre is one of the greats in the game regarding watever he releases these days and however Detox will sound like, crap, dope, that doesnt take away the fact that the man is a Legend in his field.
Dre’s early production for NWA reflected the aggressive rhythms of hiphop but after he shifted from NWA’s rough sound and gave the game a whole new breed of party music, moving away from the frenetic sampling of East Coast hip-hop and injecting live instrumentation in his beats, an album like the Chronic was great for hiphop newcomers because it’s fundamentally a pop record, with mile-wide-catchy hooks and iconic single after iconic single, With the G-funk sound and Dre’s pop sensibilities it made the album’s gangsta sensibility appeal to the masses imo. It’s hard to overstate The Chronic’s cultural significance Even if you dont own it, you’ve probably heard or know many of its songs like Dre Day, Nuthin But A G Thang and Let Me ride, Dre literally flipped G-funk into a major cultural movement, with his hypnotic synthesizers, catchy melodies blended with killer basslines also the transgressive comedy and macho profund attitude in his skits LOL, that album changed the sound and style of hip-hop and pop music imo and introduced us to a whole new generation of artits like snoop, Daz, Kurupt, Nate Dogg, Warren G, and of course DJ Quik, no way overrated!!!
Lets not forgot also if it wasnt for Dre we wouldn't have a white boy rapping with both his debut and sophmore albums going Diamond, it was Dre who didnt give a fuck or took a leap of faith watever u wanna call it LOL & signed Marshall, he was able to relate to his sense of humor and profanity that Dre had touched on the Chronic way back in 91, but unfortnatly most people forget that, 10 years after the Chronics Release another album changed Hiphop this time it was "The Marshal Mathers LP" another Dre-back bone production.
Although Dre didn't re-invent the wheel as far as production goes on the Chronic 2001, he did expand upon the G-Funk style that he helped create, same formula, working with Snoop, Nate but introducing X, Eminem, D the Dude. The album sold millions of copies and was a huge commercial success, a song like Xxplosive for example has grown into timeless rap classic imo, Let's Get High still gets a crowd going at any club or party, ten years passed from its release and the music in it still sounds fresh, It didn't follow any of rap's trends at the time in the late 90s, and thats why it doesnt sound as dated like any other album in that same time period like The Dynasty album or Cash Money album, I still bump The watcher till this day.
Lets not forget also his sublime production on 50 Cent's debut "Get Rich Or Die Tryin", and The Game's debut "The Documentary", which were both amazing albums and were prasied as two of the best Hiphop albums of the last decade.
Dre working on Detox for the last 10 years is a myth, he's been going through a rough time, he lost his son a couple of years ago and that was obvioulsy hard for him. I personally dont care if it released or not like i stated above he already has 2 classics under his belt that will last for generations.

I think Dre deserves all the credit he gets. He's been a huge part of hip-hop from NWA to Death Row to Snoop Dogg to Slim Shady. He was West Coast hip-hop more so than Suge Knight or Snoop Dogg or Tupac. He deserves a lot of credit.

He doesn't write his own lyrics or fully produce his own tracks. So I have no idea why either. He gets praised for not really doing anything.
