Well, I didn't know the Latin version of Please Please Please, Aretha's Respect, and Unchained Melody by George Benson were remakes at first either. I've never even heard of the Ad Libs.

I wasn't around anybody that listened to Otis Redding. I think most people don't know Respect is a remake. Even today, other than 3 or 4 songs, I can't get into Otis' music and singing. I've never heard of the Righteous Brothers until the late 1980's. That was because of that song in Dirty Dancing Time Of My Life, which was by one of the members. I can't name one of their songs now besides Unchained Melody, and I don't like their version, but I like George's. I did hear a lot of CCR, but I don't remember which version of Proud Mary I heard 1st though. I don't recall hearing much Ike & Tina, maybe a couple of songs. I mostly know Tina from the 1980's when Private Dancer came out.

I guess everyone has different upbringings but for someone who grew up around oldies music all my life, I still consider it odd. That's just me lol

Most of the music I heard when I was little wasn't the radio, but records and tapes at relatives houses and whatever was on TV.
