Marvin & Tammi were so powerful vocally, they actually didn't NEED the Funk Brothers/Detroit Symphony Orchestra backing them up:

And this was one of the first songs they recorded when they were BOTH in the studio TOGETHER.

Seperate the singers from those who can SANG. I"ve heard a couple of singers in my lifetime come to the mike and sing acapella. I would probably consider "sellin' out my momma" if I could hear Marvin and Tammi singing without instrumental accompaniment. By the way my mother and I played along with them singing, they are on the beat. Precious posting Timmy, thank you.

Singers and musicians in the studio together is as common as seeing a UFO, and everyone wonders why music is so blah blah blah.

You're welcome. And yeah it's funny looking back how when everything was apart, how they put it together into a fine mix. It's funny you can put 15 people in the same room to create a song today and it sounds like a bunch of crap.
