Hop on the Mothership and check the booty shaking databank, click on his first solo album, " Stretchin' Out" then check " Aah The Name Is Bootsy Baby" and don't be scared of his next album, " Bootzilla".
Also check http://www.bootsycollins.com for the latest news for his Rubber Fans and Funkateers. His next album is"Funk Capital Of The World". Ok, Bye!

You definitely need Stretchin' Out In Bootsy's Rubber Band, Ahh...The Name Is Bootsy, Baby!, Bootsy? The Player of the Year.

But if you need a little sampling that shows most of the facets of Bootsy solo career, you can't go wrong with this:

Glory B Da Funk's on Me!: The Bootsy Collins Anthology

yeahthat

Although, I would suggest you approach "This Boot is Made for Fonk-N" and "Ultra Wave" with caution, only after you've thoroughly absorbed his first 3 albums. I would not advise starting with these two for someone just embarking on their Bootsy journey. I would reserve "This Boot..." and "Ultra Wave" for the more seasoned aficionado of Funk.

i have the brides of funkenstein on vinyl... bumpin. i like his newer stuff too like the play with bootsy album, the tracks with fatboy slim (weapon of choice, the bomb, illuminati), and the track with claude von stroke is awesome (the greasy beat). he played bass on deee-lite's first and second albums (and he's on their hit groove is in the heart, of course). that's how i got into bootsy from songs like "who was that" and "heart be still". and i guess if you are new to bootsy it might be worth it to mention that he was on them james brown tracks (sex machine, just get all the james brown stuff in general. its good for the mind.). pretty fn amazing guy.

Much love goes out to Bootsy. I'm a huge huge fan of all his work, even the experimental stuff he does with Bill Laswell.

I actually managed to find vinyl copies of Bootsy side projects Godmoma and the Sweat Band albums not too long ago and, while not as strong as most of Bootsy's Rubber Band material, they still kick a naaaasty groove.Well worth searching out!!

Long may Bootsy keep the funk alive and crank out some nasty, nasty grooves!!

...And he's got a ton of stuff out there with Bill Laswell too, some really rare and obscure material where Bootsy is unrestrained by any sort of genre - love all that stuff. Those CD's are harder to find, and rather pricey when you do. But so many rare gems out there under the production of Bill Laswell.

Wasn't that great to me..

Waaaaay too much hip-hop and rappers

Although, it had one nice slow jam on there, it wasn't worth keeping.

But to each its own, ya know? biggrin

I guess it's an expression of the 90's. I listened a lot to that specific album and remember it with a smile on my face. But then again, I haven't listened to the earlier stuff. But I will now! Thanks!

I like "Fresh Outta P University". How it compares to his earlier stuff, in my opinion: It's probably a stronger production. Stronger in the sense that you can hear and feel that Bootsy was much more comfortable around the recording process. His earlier work was more organic, more raw. To me, Fresh Outta P is like Funk on steroids.

A good example of Funk on steroids is "Funk Ain't Broke", which was basically "Stretchin' Out" (...the hit from his first album) with a make-over. It took me a couple of times before I caught it too, but I thought it was well done. There were a lot of good songs on P University, several of which even had their own maxi-singles with like another 5-7 different versions of those songs.

Though the main reason I never listened to it more often is because there's one song on there that absolutely breaks my heart, a beautiful song; but it's hard for me to listen to. "I'm Leavin' U (Gotta Go, Gotta Go)" is a song he wrote for his mom when she passed away. The lyrics, and just knowing how much he loved his mom, makes that song REALLY sad to me, lol. Almost brings the whole mood of the CD down for me, but it's really a beautiful song (there's a couple of remix versions of it also).

Between "Lord of The Harvest", "Play With Bootsy", and "Fresh Outta P University", the latter is probably my favorite. But none of the newer productions capture the MAGIC in quite the same way as the first several.

Although, ya know: That was a different time altogether. touched

Love this album! It's one of my fave of all time. Bootsy truly, no pun intended, stretches out on this one. Experimental, heavy, funky, trippy all in one. If you like the first Praxis album, you'll like this. cool
