i told my sister that the 'parade' album was definitely influenced by STEVIE (especially songs like 'do u lie')- i mentioned 'maybe your baby' to her... she didn't see a connection. i also see a major connection with songs like 'housequake', with the vocal modifications, which STEVIE did in songs like 'maybe your baby'.

Yes, and a song like "Venus De Milo" was also influenced by Stevie's "Journey Through the Secret Life of Plants" I feel.

i concur with you ONE TRILLION percent.

yeah! i heard the story about the glove, and the lion... but not the other stuff! it's so wonderful to have people show an equal appreciation for the father and son!!! he really did love his 'sun'.

We are really similar when it comes to our love for Stevie and Mike!!! cool

i wished we lived in the same city, my brother... or even the same COUNTRY. there's not too many people... well, NO ONE else, really, who shares my love for STEVIE and michael like that, that i know of.

That memorial performance tore me the hell UP chile. I was at work watching that thing and LOST. IT. I've only seen that memorial once, on that day and can never ever watch that again or hear that song again. I ain't even clicking on that link. sad

The influence Stevie had on Michael is very apparent during the Off The Wall/Triumph era I think. I love how these two loved each other, as mentor and mentee, maybe almost a father figure to Michael. It seemed that Michael was always searching for that touchy feely huggy supportive kind of love he didn't get from his father. He felt that way about Berry even after things went sour with Motown and with Stevie as well.

i've actually never seen the 'memorial'. i have only seen the STEVIE part. it's so heartbreaking. and when he does that performance with john legend- what was that, the rock n' roll hall of fame or something? where he just breaks down? oh MAN!

i think songs like this definitely influenced michael:

you hear a little of where michael got his sound as an adult. and of course, michael got the 'hee hee hees' from STEVIE, just like he got the 'SHAMON' from mavis staples.

this song here, is TOTALLY a STEVIE influence: it's the first song he was credited with on an album. the overdubbing and cadence are DEFINITELY filled with bits of his 'father'.

Yep. I was highly active on MJ forums at the time. Also in the Howard Stern interview Stevie did from around the same time, Stern is trying to ask about Michael and the allegations, and Stevie repeatedly says I'm Michael's friend. He doesn't give any other answer concerning Mike. I thought that was powerful.

I hope Stevie includes this song on his new Gospel record..."Gospel Inspired by Lula".

I hear you sister, yeah I'm pretty far away from you. I do know a few people that love Mike and Stevie like that, my father being one...Very lucky. I had the best foundation. EW&F & Stevie are my dad's faves and Mike he loves too. Later on I extended that foundation myself with Ray Charles and Donny Hathaway and Prince. Can't go wrong.

I love when Michael uses his lower register like in the verses. Wonderful song. And "seems so long" is one of my faves on Music "O" the mind. cool

there was another innerview STEVIE had with stern around 2005 or so, and his response was "howard, i'm a grown-ass man, i don't have to tell you anything." i LOVE STEVIE!!!
