The "That's the same gawddam sawng!" thread

I was just listening to Cut/Copy's new album, Zonoscope, and track two ("Take Me Over") made me sit up with a start. I liked this song better when it was called "Everywhere" on Tango in the Night.

Name songs that don't credit a sample but sound similar, be it in structure, vocals or instrumentals.

The moog synth in this...

Sounds like the bass line in...

I don't know if they sampled it or not though.

It samples this:

The basic rhythm is similar in all of these.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

It's funny you mention Fleetwood Mac, because I've always thought these two songs were remarkably alike.

Rapper's Delight also uses a riff from the beggining of this. The Sugarhill Records house band were pretty good.

Do you think Ike heard Sly & the Family Stone's "Sing a Simple Song" before he wrote this song?

After seeing the Grammy's last night, I would say there is a co-inky-dink with Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" and Maddie's "Express Yourself".

Yeah, musicians from Wood, Brass & Steel ( later, some continued as Tackhead ) + the Chops Horns

The other day, I 'rediscovered' the first of these two, and was struck by just how similar the arrangement and the feel was to the latter. It's like they're 'Pt 1' and 'Pt 2' of a vibe Jam & Lewis were chasing around that time.

it's got the same guitar riff on the bridge... and there's some of the vocal percussion.

this has a similarity as well...
