April 16th 2011 Record Store Day!

Did anyone score some good stuff today? I got the R.E.M. I had been pining for, but the time it took me to pick that up cost me the Foo Fighters. I also overslept and missed the Beastie Boys online sale.

Also Purchased Bruce Springsteen, Lady Gaga, TV on the Radio, Bad Brains, and out of the used bin I scored a Prince interview picture disc.

Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

I'm trying to get Foo Fighters on ebay. Damn small town. We only got 2 copies of that disc.

Their cover of "Darling Nikki" is on it.

The one I really wanted but couldn't find was the Kate Bush "Hounds of Love" 12". The store I ended up going to first never got it in, and then the 3 other stores I stopped by had already sold out. Bummer.

Nice work Mars23.

I was a naiive Wrecka Stow Day virgin before today. So imagine my horror when arrived at Rough Trade Records in London, at 8am this morning, to find a half mile long queue (I'm not exaggerating by much here) . None theless, I was still fresh faced and eager at tat point, so I went to try my luch somehere else, and eventually found a store in Soho where the queue was a mere quater mile long.

After a two hour wait, I picked up a very nice haul indeed:

(Hendrix/Lightnin' Red - Dorella Du Fontaine)

(Red Hot Chili Peppers/Ramones - Havana Affair)

(Dennis Coffey - Ubiquitus)

Apart from the Radiohead 'Butcher ' 7" and the 'Good Vibrations' disc, I got everything I was looking for! Hooray for vinyl pimp

Incidentally, I see a lot of today's RSD exclusives are already changing hands on eBay for obscene amounts of money. mad. I know that we can;t really do muvch about that, but I canthelp thinking that it goes against the spirit of the day - i.e. getting people back into indie record shops and away from the 'net.

It's been too long since you've had your ass kicked properly:

It was cool of the CARS to release that special 45 for the day along with other artists.

Luckily, the Foo Fighters is flooded on ebay. I think I'll be able to get a copy cheaply. But yea, it's fucked that people do that. It really goes against the spirit of the exercise.

yeah flooded would be the word for here in NYC, which kinda sucked it really hurt the business for these small stores which already operate by just getting by so this was a needed boost but the weather really didnt cooperate at all, heavy downpours all day since Friday night still going, and the temp is actually colder now than it was in January, so much for "warming"
