I never understood why Brother Roy never got a break from the music business. We can thank the hip hop movement from the mid 90s and the neo soul movement for reviving his music legacy. I remember reading his WaxPoetics interview where he said he got a heap load of hassling from his label for running an independent label on the side to help him release his side projects.

The man is truly a genius. I could tell a Roy Ayers song just by listening to it, his style is completely his own.
