You are right about that. And Mary sure could sing. That time period was the bomb for soul/r-n-b. Makes me want to hear Juicyfruit, Cutiepie, Let It Whip ... and all of those other great songs from the time.

God...to THIS DAY, I herald Mary Davis as the "sexiest voice in R&B." Her vocals are so smooth and creamy. I only wish that Jam & Lewis might have played into her solo album and of course, that she'd've had MORE albums after it. Sadly, she did not.

the b-side to my 12 Inch reads 5:40 (by memory).
This is way longer.... and really great.
They did some excellent instrumentals and dubs. You should hear the ones for "Just The Way You Like It" and "For Your Love".....

She did this one on her own around that time. I remember shaking ass to it in the clubs plenty of times (that was my first year going to gay clubs, the straight ones in my area didn't touch it...you know we party harder than straight folks anyway ) but the radio rarely played it....they were too busy playing adult contemporary shit.

Anyway, I saw them here in Columbia, SC a couple years ago and they sounded great. Mary still had the voice, the band still had the chops and the cool thing was both Mary and Abdul Raoof came down off the stage at different times and interacted with the people. They played some of there best stuff but I'll never 4 get two things. One was how they paid tribute to Michael when they vamped into "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough" during "Take Your Time". Then on the breakdown of Weekend Girl where he asks her to a movie, Abdul said he was gonna take Mary home and rub her feet later on that night. Everybody in the stands just lit up when he said it and by the end of their 45 minutes wanted them 2 come back and play some more.

Jimmy & Terry sold their souls to the devil long time ago. Not gonna happen but I admire you for your thoughts though. I wouldn't mind seeing it if Mary reminds me why they were important in the first place.

I gotcha, I gotcha lol I've always said 4 a long time that Sands was thier best album while a lot of other fans were crazy about the 1st album, JTWYLI or OTR. Part of it might be because it was the earliest music I heard at such a young age, but musically I think it was the next step in the progression of the J&L sound. Y'know listenin 2 this stuff over the years, I wondered why Jimmy, Terry, Jellybean and Monte never made an album as Flyte Tyme or The Secret. I figured if they couldn't get The Time back together, they could've had a whole new band with Alexander O'Neal singin lead a la The Family.
