My favorite is the B Side of the 12 Inch. I love the intro of the B side and then I like to bring in the vocal version when the synths start. But that B side is good all the way through on it's own....
You are right about that. And Mary sure could sing. That time period was the bomb for soul/r-n-b. Makes me want to hear Juicyfruit, Cutiepie, Let It Whip ... and all of those other great songs from the time.

^ wow thanks, never heard the long instr. version before....
God...to THIS DAY, I herald Mary Davis as the "sexiest voice in R&B." Her vocals are so smooth and creamy. I only wish that Jam & Lewis might have played into her solo album and of course, that she'd've had MORE albums after it. Sadly, she did not.

the b-side to my 12 Inch reads 5:40 (by memory).
This is way longer.... and really great.
They did some excellent instrumentals and dubs. You should hear the ones for "Just The Way You Like It" and "For Your Love".....
The record label wanted Mary to have a solo career. I think anyway. Both careers of the SOS Band and Mary's didn't recover and Mary reunited with them around 1994.

She did this one on her own around that time. I remember shaking ass to it in the clubs plenty of times (that was my first year going to gay clubs, the straight ones in my area didn't touch it...you know we party harder than straight folks anyway ) but the radio rarely played it....they were too busy playing adult contemporary shit.

Hmm, I read that after "Sands Of Time" Jimmy and Terry started workin full time with Janet on Control and really didn't have time to put into SOS like they did before, so Mary saw it comin and split to do her own thang 4 a while. Anyway, I saw them here in Columbia, SC a couple years ago and they sounded great. Mary still had the voice, the band still had the chops and the cool thing was both Mary and Abdul Raoof came down off the stage at different times and interacted with the people. They played some of there best stuff but I'll never 4 get two things. One was how they paid tribute to Michael when they vamped into "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough" during "Take Your Time". Then on the breakdown of Weekend Girl where he asks her to a movie, Abdul said he was gonna take Mary home and rub her feet later on that night. Everybody in the stands just lit up when he said it and by the end of their 45 minutes wanted them 2 come back and play some more.

Awwww! I met Abdul in Boston in 1987. Except instead of Mary, I was greeted by Pennye Ford. She was very nice, but I wanted to meet Mary and I was bummed out forever. I DID get to see SOS Band perform in 1986 at The Channel (nightclub) in Boston to promote "Sands of Time" and Mary had injured her back or sumpthin' so she sat in a swivel chair for the entire concert, but it didn't matter. I just wanted to see her and hear that awesomely gorgeous voice of hers!

I would LOVE IT if Mary got signed again to a major label and Jimmy & Terry wrote and produced an entire album for her. Probably a pipedream, but hey...I brotha's entitled to dream.

Jimmy & Terry sold their souls to the devil long time ago. Not gonna happen but I admire you for your thoughts though. I wouldn't mind seeing it if Mary reminds me why they were important in the first place.

I was about 5 and my father was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany when Sands Of Time was out, but even then I was in love with that album. Watchin my dad I figured out how to work the arm on the turntable so I would play that, Bad, Lakeside's Power, Just The Way You Like It, The Deele's Eyes Of A Stranger, The System's Don't Disturb This Groove, and Alexander O'Neal's Hearsay.

Wow! 5? That's what my other 1/2 was in 1986 and you got the same taste as HE does! LOL! Damn! In 1986, I was 23. Seems like yesterday when "The Finest" was playin' on all the R&B stations! Good for YOU! "Sands of Time" was their BEST Jam & Lewis effort, I think. Had Mary stayed with them, and Jam & Lewis produced more for them, there would have been many more Gold albums WELL into the 90's. It's sad really. Take care!

^ I meant you have GREAT TASTE in music btw!
I gotcha, I gotcha lol I've always said 4 a long time that Sands was thier best album while a lot of other fans were crazy about the 1st album, JTWYLI or OTR. Part of it might be because it was the earliest music I heard at such a young age, but musically I think it was the next step in the progression of the J&L sound. Y'know listenin 2 this stuff over the years, I wondered why Jimmy, Terry, Jellybean and Monte never made an album as Flyte Tyme or The Secret. I figured if they couldn't get The Time back together, they could've had a whole new band with Alexander O'Neal singin lead a la The Family.
