I'm, for the most part, not that offended by it...but I do think it's tacky. I am sometimes annoyed at the way that dance acts are 'excused' for their lipsyncing because of their choreography -- as if that makes up for it. It doesn't. If you can't live sing and dance effectively enough, then lessen the dancing. Singing should always be foremost, not the other way around, Janet. [Edited 3/4/11 0:11am]

If I go to a concert, it's because I want to hear the artist sing live. If they can't sing live, they shouldn't do concerts.
I never understood why Michael didn't sing live at Motown 25 as he was the only artist to lip-sync on that show (all music and most backing tracks were pre-recorded, but the lead vocalists all sang live). Just like the white winged dove...

i don't know for sure, but it may have been a contractual thing with epic. i remember reading something about this long ago. it may have been since it was not a motown song, he may not have been able to do it live. epic had a stronghold in many ways, and he wasn't alowed to do a lot because of that.
even though he still vilated the contract in some ways, ala the e.t. storybook, and the simpsons stuff. he had to not be credited. but the e.t. thing was definitely a violation of the contract.
