K.C & The Sunshine Band.. You know this band sure has gotten some shit over the years as being regarded as one of the worst group in history mainly cause of there disco esque songs
I picked up part 3 the album today from a friend at work telling me to check it out, The album is funky as hell! in fact most of there hit singles are funky as hell!
I know there known as a disco band, but they had some good musicians playing for them i feel the bad is way overrated especially after listening to a whole album worth of cuts, Baby I love you, Wrap your arms around me, Come on in where some great tracks' that weren't hits.
They may not have been poets but they could rock out and had some good musicians there nowhere near as bad as people make them out to be Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

They were an absolutely great group! Hell, it doesn't bother me when people talk about them because if they don't like them, then that means they are a dull motherfucker anyway. Hell, they probably like today's music so their opinion certainly don't mean shit! Andy is a four letter word.

They're playing the music on this. [Edited 3/2/11 14:23pm] You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

K.C. and the Sunshine Band DOMINATED the Disco/R&B scene from 1976-1980, especially with hits like "(That's The Way) I Like It," "Get Down Tonight," "Boogie Shoes," "(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty," "I'm Your Boogie Man," "Keep It Comin' Love," "Do You Wanna Go Party" and their surprise hit ballad in 1980, "Please Don't Go." Additionally, there was a further hit in 1983 entitled "Give It Up," which first appeared on their 2nd Epic/CBS album, "All In A Night's Work." Sadly, Epic didn't hear the "hit" in it, which frustrated K.C. who released it as a single a year later on his own Ten Records. It was an out the box SMASH! These guys were up on their "A" Game and they knew how to throw it down BIG TIME. I must have worn the vinyl off my "Part 3" album 3x back in da day! LOL! Another awesome thing to note was the incredible diversity featured in the band's lineup. Another killer cut which I LOVE is the first single off their FIRST Epic album entitled, "The Painter" called "Love Me." His falsetto and that unwash of groovy organ is Da BOMB! Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.

I think you'll dig 'em! They were tight and soulful and their music featured the punchiest horns in the bizz. Mind you, the hits started to taper off around 1978-1979. This doesn't mean that what followed sucked though. It's that trends were changing and record companies were goin' for the new guns and droppin' the old ones sadly. Peaceout, Gunsnhalen! Enjoy! I'll also stand behind the fact that although they happened to come out Pre-Disco and that their career spanned across the Disco Era, they were still MORE of an R&B outfit and R&B (of that day) certainly evolved out of Disco formats. Not their FIRST album, but their FIRST album for Epic, 1981 called "The Painter."

I love tat groupd, disco songs and otherwise. Boogie Shoes, I'm your boogieman and get down tonight are amongst the greatest of all disco/dance songs ever made. Why anyone would hate them is beyond me. It was an interracial group too, which made it even better as it showed Black and White people making great music together (Just like the Revolution). And Give it Up is definitely one of my favourites too, originally I thought that song was by the Isleys Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Really? a lot of SERIOUS music critics always degrade them. And like i was saying on some list on EW years ago they where named the 17th worst band ever Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

When I was about 8 years old, I pooled my allowance money with some of my brothers and sisters and bought their first album. It was the first album I ever bought.
And while they're known as one of the quintessential disco bands, they actually were a complete funk group with a huge horn section and rhythm section. Most of the schlock that was characterized as disco used programmed beats and cheesy arrangements. KC and the Sunshine band used none of that; they were accomplished musicians in their own right.

I find that completely amusing, and grossly inaccurate. Though I should add; I spend very little energy toward paying attention to critics. Just reinforces my belief that the only opinion that matters regarding music I love is my own, lol. Then, regarding critics: I suppose they'd be out of a job if they didn't find something to criticize, but their opinions do very little in the way of changing mine.
I've been a fan of K.C. & The Sunshine Band since the week their first single dropped.

"Get Down Tonight" was the very first song I ever danced to at a party, before that I was a Wall Flower. I had it on 45", and played it like 50 times a day. I was familiar enough with the rhythm that I felt confident enough to get out there on the dance floor and bust a move with Dee-Dee from Newark, at a basement party (...with the one red light bulb screwed into the ceiling, and punchbowl filled with Thunderbird & Grapefruit Juice, or Wild Irish Rose or some shit, lol). I never looked back, and have been a dancing fool ever since!
I just learned a bit of trivia about "Get Down Tonight" just a few weeks ago: That the intro was done by speeding up a recorded guitar riff. I always thought a sequenced keyboard played the intro.

A well written review can sometimes give you insight, or maybe teach you something about the artist or the product. But by the end of the day, you've gotta go with what feels/sounds good to YOU.

I never knew this single was from KC and the Sunshine Band I thought it was from a English artist at the time. After all it does sound like early 'New Wave'.
I loved this song as well My ultimate favorite "That's the Way I Liked It"

Voted one of the worst!?????
What kind of frackanackle BS is THAT???
It's almost sounds blasphemous....ugh I shutter that notion...one of the worst....nonsense pure nonsense.
They are in my book Music Gods! They were tooo funky and KC was cute IMO.
I love all thier songs but "Keep It Coming Love"is my absolute fav..... I had my first crush at 10yrs old and this song was "our song" LOL!!!!! when it comes on I listen to the entire song and sing it to the top of my lungs.
The music is so so stank that you cannot sit still so how in the world are they considered by critics to be horrible.....well who cares about that.
It just brings ya back to TEEN BEAT and Right On magazines, pure joy!

Check THIS out! It's a 2CD set of their entire first 5 albums! I'm hoping that their two on Epic from 1981 & 1982 might see a CD reissue sometime down the road. For the price, you get a LOT here! v

I tend to agree. And I can't quite figure out where "Disco" got to be such a bad thing either. Disco was real music, highly orchestrated, by real musicians. K.C. & The Sunshine Band were out there on the cutting edge of all that, along with other groups like Average White Band, and The Bee Gee's.
And I'm amazed that any "critics" would have ever gotten that twisted.
