Here's some other Little Richard style songs.

The 1st verse of this was based on Bill Cosby talk. smile

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I have much respect Little Richard but he was influenced by the vocal whoops and hollers of Sonny Terry.

He actually cited this woman for the whoops/hollers:

I thought it was this guy. Richard himself said he got his scream from a female gospel singer, but I can't think of her name right now.

Vocal whoops and hollers by Sonny Terry were LIGHTYEARS before Marion Williams was even on the scene. Sonny Terry was doing this with Blind Boy Fuller and for all of Little Richard's protest about those who borrowed from him; Mr. Terry was just as vocal about about Ms. Williams. Little Richard and others "borrowing" from him. lol

Esquerita was the one who taught him the rocking piano style, not to mention, alot of his mannerisms and how he dressed.

yes, esquerita! i love esquerita! there was an interview with litle richard some years ago, where he talked about how he met esquerita at a bus stop or something, and he taught esquerita to play piano (or the other way around). but esquerita got the hair from richard. i can't remember the order, but there was a definite connection.

one of my favourite esquerita songs is 'why did it take so long'

his voice is more blues than gospel of penniman. by the way, i'm glad michael returned little richard's songs back to him! micheal knew what was up.

Even Richard himself included Billy in his film. I forget who Billy was portrayed by. It was also an open secret that much like Richard, Billy was a, how should I put it, "howudoin"? wink

I think Richard himself admitted his influences. I don't know if he mentioned Sonny Terry though but he might've.

AND THE ORIGINAL LYRICS TO TUTTI FRUTTI WERE:

nod

You know even WITH the lyrical changes, there was still a rainbow edge to that song on the title alone. Hell the fact they kept that title itself ("Tutti Frutti") was daring enough.

I've been inducing a big dose of Little Richard's music, and I never realized how much of a gifted and versatile vocalist he is.

This one hits home...

There's a recorded interview from his "Greatest Hits" album where sings a hair raising slow impromptu and then went on to say its only one example of the many things he could do beside "rock & roll".

Little Richard has had some health concerns for a couple of years now, hence his low profile.

I know the last few appearances he has made he was in a wheelchair. But he looked great from the waist up. No sign of sickness in his face. I remember I use to have a friend that was his nephew(or said he was), We saw him driving very fast down this popular street here in LA call Crenshaw Blvd. We caught up wth him. Only because of a red light that caught him. We chatted for a little while. I asked him. Is it true he gave Prince a bible? U know I think he is a JW to. Its strange that Prince ended up becoming one years later..

Mike also offered Sly Stone his songs, but Sly turned it down for some reason.

That is very odd for him to turn that down..Did he offer it free or to sell?
