new new new

i just wanted to state and maybe spark thought about the concept of new

is it the desire to be apart of something that is happening compared to something that has happened?

is that the reason our consumer driven culture is obsessed with new? is everything really just like a flash in the pan? i mean i've had my couches for 3 years but they are still new to me.

many artists, including the holy trinity of mj prince, and madonna, make new material every few years. at these shows, they play(ed) their hits , maybe some underrated album cuts and a few new songs. from what i understand, prince's shows lately have featured only a cut or 2 off of 20ten. like how disappointed was i at musicology when the 3 times i seen it there was no illusion coma pimp circumstance. thats the fuckin jam. but i digress, if the new stuff is so important and preferred over the old stuff, why play it a show?

lady gaga's new song sounds like an old song but our culture wants the new version. why is that?

the new song is about being born this way but she is decked out in makeup and fake image altering prosthetics. all the time. is this part of the joke? if so thats a fucking stupid joke.

why is it that when bjork dressed like a duck it was weird but this chick dresses in steak or whatever and its so edgy? i dunno i get scared about this robot human american idol world of new.

erykah badu said "how y’all gone stand by and let our music turn into pop techno cornball ass music".... anybody?

...

we treasure albums and songs from artists who are still alive and kicking but for some reason not as new as the other artists. the record companies make money of licensing and playing old songs on the radio but those who aren't "major" don't play on pop radio.

i mean i am happy i get to see en vogue, lauryn hill, the isley brothers, bobby brown, gladys knight, musiq soulchild... all in one show/package for a steal of a ticket, but seriously new is fucking expensive and usually not worth it.

new makes me want to change the station a lot. i wonder if changing the station a lot supports our corporate masters as they own almost every station.

sometimes i wonder if american pop radio is a self fulfilling machine. like if all or most or even a large portion of america secretly agreed to stop listening to commercial radio for 60 days would commercial radio even notice?

how do you shut down a gigantic corporate master? i guess you don't.

none of the newer pop stars have consistent bands on an album, let alone a few albums. alot of them work with the same producers. why is it we all know bands that are fucking amazing but none of them get signed anymore?

i love the idea of computer music, but seriously people have been making computer music for decades now. how is it that cee-lo's new song at the grammy's was done dressed as an old elton john bit and he didn't even play that piano? is it because the muppets weren't really playing their stuffed instruments?

the new model is what used to be called posing. faking. that was gweneth paltrow up there on stage right? an actress?

elton john can rock a piano with his toes i reckon. speaking of elton john, how about the new elton john album where he "saves" this "long lost" (read: old/"washed up"/not still on a major) leon russell fella and he's in RS talking like he happened to walk by leon russell in a trash can and pulled a fairy godmother on him.

sometimes something new makes me sick.

maybe if we stopped waiting for new, as a culture, and just kind of let new happen, new wouldn't be so desperate for attention and money. new would make an album of 14 good solid tunes every few years to get our attention and money.

maybe people should sort of hang on to their old shit a bit and get some use out of it. maybe then everyone wouldn't be so broke and they would have better taste and expectation in music. i mean how do people know the words to most of these songs and still like them?

why do i feel like some white-haired, wrinkly skinned, society wife? i feel like tipper gore saying that shit but i'm serious.

i think that like most of the indie artists, a lot of people need to go indie and stay farrrr away as you can from this poison they produce.

in conclusion, i suppose this tirade is a part of growing older and realizing just how obsolete i am.

sorry i just get frustrated with this whole new thing sometimes. i have netflix now so i do not watch corporate television at all really and have fallen terribly out of the loop with the world in general. if the radio is on its on public radio. i don't think i'm the only one, but sometimes i feel like i am.
