Albums for Aliens

So you have a visit with an alien. At the end of the visit the being wants 10 albums from your collection.

(They'll be replaced, so you don't have to live without them.)
What would they be taking home to share?
1. Handel's Messiah - London Philharmonic
2. Crystal Ball - (4 disc set) - Prince
3. Kind of Blue - Miles Davis
4. HIStory - Michael Jackson
5. You and Me Both - Yaz
6. Dearest Christian I'm So Very Sorry For Bringing You Here. Love Dad - P.M. Dawn (out of 13 tracks, I have five rated five stars. Prince doesn't even have an album with five, five star tracks.)
7. The Wall - Pink Floyd
8. Aja - Steely Dan
9. Breakfast in America - Supertramp
10. Achtung Baby - U2
I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Great idea.

I think I will avoid mostly obscure works and stick to more prominent works of music history.

1) Gustav Holst - The Planets

2) Miles Davis - Kind of Blue

3) The Beatles - Mmmm.... Let's go with Abbey Road

4) Bob Dylan - Freewheeling Bob Dylan

5) Frank Zappa - Hot Rats

6) Radiohead - OK Computer

7) Prince - Sign O the Times

8) Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon

9) Alan Parson's Project - I Robot

10) Arcade Fire - The Suburbs

I tried to pick at least one album from each decade from the 50s to now, and I don't know how anybody can't find The Planets mesmerizing, and included it in spirit of Suprman's first pick being classical. Please note these are not necessarily my favourite albums, or even my favourite albums by the artists listed. And I know number 10 will stir controversy, but I honestly personally can't recall the last time I thought an album was as consistently great as it, and it brings me back to the days when people felt they had to listen to an album from start to finish to enjoy it. And I think it's a great reflection of 21st century culture in the west.

PS Suprman, like your list, though I am not at all familiar with Yaz or PM Dawn

But this isn't in YOUR collection.

True (although I wish it was). Great thread topic, BTW. I just start gettin a headache on these list thangs...I start thinkin about what to include / exclude from this mess of a collection of mine & never end up happy with the final results.

I always end up "cheating" by slipping in a box set or 2 lol

I know what you mean. I often WANT to participate in these "list" threads, but often run into the same wall that you do. Great "thought provoking" idea for a thread though. That being said...

  • Earth, Wind & Fire - "Gratitude"
  • Prince - "1999"
  • Stevie Wonder - "Journey Through The Secret Life of Plants"
  • Frank Zappa - "Joe's Garage"
  • Funkadelic - "Hardcore Jollies"
  • Carole King - "Tapestry"
  • Marvin Gaye - "Let's Get It On"
  • Billy Joel - "Piano Man"
  • Return To Forever - "Romantic Warrior"
  • Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 - "Four Sider"

Although, I could probably do this list several times over, with completely different artists every time. These were just the first ten I could think of off the top of my head.
