This is back when it was a bold statement and and rebellious for women of color to be blond. Now every bama and their mama is blond these days. It's totally lost all of the sass and shock value it had from Queen Re's time and before.

True. And I think in Aretha's time, only three other black women in music wore blond (Etta James, Mary Wells and Mary Wilson).

I forgot but Donna Summer also sported blond hair in the early '90s (I think).
