Interesting ... was just thinking about this.

1. I am sure M is waiting for this year's Lady caca cycle to be over - or at least, the big album / first few singles before she announces ANYTHING...

2. I don't think it has to do with HC being a 'turkey' - yes it was her 2nd lowest selling soundscan total, but it is a new era where 300k - 500k is considered GOOD for CD sales - i think HC did what, 700k in the US - plus it did hit number one in 3902029393 countries and '4 Minutes' was one of her biggest selling singles since...ever?

3. She did always do a standard 2.5 years between studio records - if you count 'evita' - for warner bros. Now that she's out of that who knows how long it will be between discs.

It's not too long. I've followed her career save for the first five years of it and it's always been a 2, 3, sometimes 4 year process. "Ray of Light" took four years to come out. And yeah I'm sure she's patient because of who's on the charts right now so no rush. Legends don't rush lol

There was nothing wrong with Hard Candy. It was good enough for her to open a chain of fitness clubs in its namesake. The wipping boy arrogance people throw at that album is now past the point of being lame.

Last I heard she was working on some sort of film project, and was slated to return to the studio after that was done.

I hope so!

And, yes, Hard Candy and American Life are her worst albums (I don't count the ballad one). Doesn't make them garbage, but doesn't mean they're any good either.

Eh, those albums are both better than I'm Breathless, Erotica, Bedtime Stories, and True Blue to me.

Either way... it's good Madge took awhile to chill out and just enjoy time with her kid's

IDC To much about numbers but her numbers of hit singles is rather impressive! she had a hit album every year leading up to Hard Candy

The album came out in 1983 and had 3 big hits. then Like A Virgin in 84-85 had 4 big hits not to mention she also did Into The Groove & Crazy On you

86 she had 5 huge singles from True Blue, and in 87 had 2 huge hits from the Who's That Girl

None in 88

89 saw 4 big singles, 1990 of course there was Vogue!.. and the underrated Hanky Panky

1991 had Justify My Love & Rescue Me, 92 had This used to be my playground, the 92 era had Erotica & 93 had the big hit I'll Remember 94-95 had Bedtime Story hits as well as You'll See

96-97 Had You Must Love Me & her cover Don't Cry For Me Argentina

98 had the Ray Of light hits, 1999 had Beautiful Stranger from Austin Powers.

2000-01 not only had the Music singles but her remake of American Pie

2002 had her hit Die Another Day

2003 American Life was a top 40 hit bot huge, she also had the duet with Britney Me Against The music

nothing in 04, then she came back with Hung Up & The Confessions Of A Dance Floor singles..

That is pretty impressive that from 1983 to the 2000's almost every year she had a hit

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

By that do you mean the *Classic* *sensual* *baby-making* *introspective* masterpiece of her songwriting, vocals and lyrics AT THEIR BEST?

SOMETHING TO REMEMBER?

1. it was not a proper studio set - it only had 3 (brilliant) new songs. 3 of which that show her best vocals of the 90s.

2. how can you say it wasn't 'any' good when it contains "Live to Tell," "Rain," "Oh Father," "You'll See," "Forbidden Love," "Love Don't Live Here Anymore," "Something to Remember," etc....et al....

MY PERSONAL FAVORITE M COMPILATION -- Beats Celebration, Immaculate, GHV2 and You Can Dance and ESPECIALLY Remixed & Revisited by A MILE...please, please someone do yourself this week after a hard day at work, poor some sweet white wine turn the lights off and just listen. All in all I would consider it her 3rd best album EVER (if including compilations)...right after its two predecessors and in that order. 1992-1995 was Madonna's creative peak as a songwriter, vocalist, musician, and lyricist. Not to mention that period has MORE classic videos than any other 'era.' Folks who say 'Ray of Light' thru 'American Life' was her creative peak be damned.

nod She has spent most of last year directing and filming a new movie called 'W.E'. which is due this summer. Her manager has confirmed that she has also started writing songs and listening to demos.I predict she will start recording the new album in the summer and release it by December or early 2012.

a very recent Billboard article about the new album...

Madonna About To Record New LP, Irving Azoff Says

February 11, 2011

By Ray Waddell, Nashville

It looks like Madonna is preparing to enter the studio to record a new album, the first under her $100 million multi-rights deal with Live Nation, which another lucrative tour seems likely as well.

"They tell me Madonna is about to record, so there could be another Madonna cycle coming," Live Nation Entertainment Chairman Irving Azoff told Billboard.biz during an interview earlier this week. Asked if the Madonna album would come through Live Nation, Azoff responded, "Yes," meaning Madonna's album could be the first recorded content overseen by Live Nation. The Zac Brown Band's LP "The Foundation" was initially geared to be a Live Nation project in 2008, but the company folded its label division with the exit of then-chairman Michael Cohl and the record ended up on Atlantic.

Azoff's news was echoed by Madonna manager Guy Oseary this week via Twitter: "The update is that Madonna can't wait to get into the recording studio. This will happen as soon as she finishes the movie she directed."

Live Nation signed a 10-year multi-rights deal with Madonna in 2007 said to be worth as much as $100 million, including her touring, merchandising and recording rights. Madonna left Warner Bros., her label home of 25 years, after the release of her 2008 album "Hard Candy." Her subsequent Live Nation-produced "Sticky & Sweet" tour grossed $408 million worldwide, according to Billboard Boxscore, highest ever for a female artist.

After the Madonna deal, Live Nation subsequently announced long term multi-rights deals with such artists as U2 (which does not include recorded content), Shakira, Jay-Z and others. Still, it is likely Live Nation would partner with some other entity in releasing the record, as executives at the firm have stated repeatedly that they don't intend to enter the record business full-tilt.

"Live Nation, prior to the merger, entered into some of these all-rights deals, so there are certain artists, Madonna being one of them, that there is a recorded music strategy," Azoff saod. "Once she gets the album recorded, we'll sit down with her and her manager Guy Oseary and figure out what's best for the record. It has to start with the music."

All of the artists with whom Live Nation has secured long-term deals are doing well, particularly U2, currently on their record-shattering "360" tour. which will end up as the highest grossing tour of all time. Still, when asked if Live Nation would be cutting similar deals in the future, Azoff said, "No, we're not going to do multi-rights deals. But look at what's going on with our partners at Roc Nation and the kind of year that Jay-Z had. Shakira's touring has been really well-planned and has been incredibly successful this past year."

So,I'm thinking that this is how things will work out:

Summer 2011---release of new movie 'W.E.

late summer 2011---Madonna enters the studio to begin recording songs

February 2012---first single released

March 2012---album is released

Summer 2012---world tour

on another forum that I visit, fans are coming up with possible titles for the new album. This will be first post-Warners album so she needs a strong, powerful title.I like some of these:

MPowered (the title is "empowered" but with an 'M' at the beginning.Brilliant!!!!)

Lip Service

Inappropriate

Madonna Defined

M (Pharrell refers to Madonna as simply "M".It works as an album title....short and simple)

Bells & Whistles (signifying that the album pulls out all the stops)

Over The Top

LoveStyles

Contrary To Popular Belief

Metamorphosis

hmmm what do you guys think? I like the 'MPowered' title the best lol

DrHeat

Her last album lacked something, she jumped on the pharrell and Timb bandwagaon and didnt care, she said it her self in an interview, thats these 2 were making fucking great music and she wanted to work them, most of the ideas on the album weren't even her's, "4 min" was Kenna's and gave it to JT, also it was P's idea to get Kanye on a track for the sake of it, she wanted to make a female version of Justin's Future/sex love sounds and suprisingly failed imo, there are some cool tracks on the album though like Miles away, Candy and the Kanye joint (i dont even remember its name lol).

I dont think she's talking her time, i think she just busy focusing on other projects the movie of course was one of them, also maybe she hasnt been writing much in the last few years, who knows, but i just hope she doesnt bring Pharrell and Timb again, just cause they're dope doesnt mean that madonna has to work with them again!!!!

I have to disagree with you there. American Life was probably her worst album, as the songs were mostly incoherent. If you look past the whole hype over her Sex book and the awful movies she did around that time, Erotica is actually quite good in retrospect. Hard Candy was a disappointment, but that's because it followed a really good album in Confessions On A Dance Floor. And she's not taking that long of a period to make another album; she released Hard Candy in 2008.

hard candy had some great catchy tunes on it, i still listen to it.

Erotica is still her best work IMO.

Hope she mixes it up again for the next record and makes something very different.

oh and next WORLD tour, actually tour the WORLD as defined by Planet Earth, not just two contients all the time :/

I find it hard to believe it took Madonna that long to make Ray of Light, she started making that around 1997.

In between 1994 and 1998- were albums like Evita with Something to Remember.
