@ all orgers...At least Beyonce isn't digitally brighter like that infamous make-up ad from 2 years ago. But is THIS latest controversy worth selling? You decide.

Beyoncé acknowledges her roots in L'Officiel Paris' 90th anniversary issue by wearing various African-inspired clothing. But did she go too far by voluntarily darkening her face for the shoot?

There's been no word yet from the Grammy winner herself, who reportedly used the photo shoot to also pay tribute to the late African musician-activist Fela Kuti. But the magazine is defending the spread.

"The designs are all reflective of the African influence on fashion this season," the magazine says in a statement. "As for the artistic make-up, the inspiration came from several African rituals during which paint is used on the face. We find the images beautiful and inspiring."

Inspiring or infuriating? The jury's still out.

i actually would have known nothing about this if a friend of mine hadn't pointed it out. there's some nigerians i could point you to that are NOT happy with this... i don't particularly grasp the need for this sort of revisionist art. to me, it's some european concept of what their vision of the motherland (or fela's world) represents. people from the motherland are of all shades and experiences.

i'm not completely offended, but i do find this tasteless and again, revisionist. why could she not just be herself and honor the man in her own way? get together with wunmi or someone like that? the fashion world's take on the motherland is pretty ridiculous.

fela was pretty anti-imperialist. beyounce, to me, represents that which fela anikulapo kuti spoke against, so... just my opinion here. i'm sure a debate will ensue at some point, on all ends.
