Yeah..I did check that out. I agree...far from the worst sounds ever. The harsh criticism is prolly more a result of unfair comparison to the band's earlier incarnation & terrific catalog.

There were some pretty fine musicians associated with this project...so that's why I thought I'd ask the Org for some more balanced perspective B4 maybe tracking the album down.

Another tune from the album. Very nice. A bit of a Jam & Lewis vibe. Actually, the singer reminds me of Dino. Remember him? ("24/7", "I Like It", "Sunshine", etc...). I could definately hear this getting airplay on any R&B station back in the late '80s.

It appears all the tracks from 'The Fire' were re-released on a budget compilation CD called 'Boogie Nights'.

speaking of Heatwave....I finally got the 'Candles' remaster and it is GREAT! Contains a whopping nine(!) bonus tracks!

During their most commercially successful years, Heatwave were a band that crossed many borders, laying claim to such international hits as Boogie Nights, Too Hot To Handle, The Groove Line, Eyballin', and Always And Forever, all having a huge impact on both sides of the Atlantic. Heatwave's fourth album, Candles, saw Johnnie Wilder Jr take on the producers role alongside James Guthrie, best known for his work with Pink Floyd, returning to work with Heatwave since serving as an engineer on both Too Hot To Handle and Central Heating.

Fresh off his success of contributions to Michael Jackson's Off The Wall album, Rod Temperton remained the bands chief songwriter penning a total of five tracks including hit single, Gangsters Of The Groove which provided Heatwave with further R&B chart success reaching #21 and gaining a top 20 UK pop spot accompanied by an early foray into music video. Further hits include the touching, R&B, Doo Wop flavoured single, Where Did I Got Wrong and the Rod Temperton penned UK Top 40 single Jitterbuggin, both of which helped drive this album into the UK Pop and US R&B Top 30.

I never knew about this album.I always assumed that 1982's 'Current' was their final album.Looks like they kept going for several more years.

Ditto here. It must not have had much distribution / promotion.

btw,I saw Heatwave in concert last week.It was really just one original member (Keith Wilder) with two sidemen.

Yeah and they seem more like a bad version of The Chi Lites now versus a

great band like they were in the seventies. But that's just me.

You saw them live so you may have a different perspective. When i saw

them a few years ago on that PBS special they just seemed like a total different

Heatwave.

Yeah,it's just not the same I mean,I enjoyed the performance but let's face it....without most of the original members,it's like watching a tribute band.I wish I could have seen them back in 1977/78 when they were in their prime.
