Will.i.am: "iTunes Is Scary For Musicians"

[img:$uid]http://i54.tinypic.com/dgt30w.jpg[/img:$uid]

Feb 14, 2011

Will.i.am has spoken out against Apple's domination of the digital music world through their online iTunes store, but claims that computers are very important for the future of music.

The rapper gave a speech at the Grammy Foundation's annual Entertainment Law Initiative Luncheon in Los Angeles, in which he declared that computers and the internet were there to help, not hurt the music industry.

"Believe me, I love Apple... but iTunes shouldn't be the answer," he said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "It should be the scariest thing in the world [for musicians]."

The Black Eyed Peas frontman was recently named Director of Innovation at Intel, and is widely known for being an early adopter of new technology.

"Teaming up with the scientists and researchers and computer programmers at Intel to collaborate and co-develop new ways to communicate, create, inform, and entertain is going to be amazing," he said of his upcoming work with the computer company.

Will.i.am also claimed that we should be encouraging children while they are young to expand their knowledge of computers and technology, so that they can help to develop the industry in the future.

What happeing to Google Music Store, isn't the industry waiting with baited breath for someone else to break Apple's dominance, to save them?

I don't think he meant musically. I'm hoping he meant..."develop the computer and technology industry in general...in the future".

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Isn't this the same guy who was stressing that people don't buy albums anymore and singles are in style, regarding BEP's The E.N.D. album and the importance of iTunes back in 2009? These dude is freakin' wack.

I guess he has nothing to be scared of then. He could play more instruments than Prince for all i know. The end result is fucking garbage, not music at all to these old, snobby ears.

I just discovered that he plays the piano. Who would have thunk it given his over reliance on samples?

Yeah. That's why I raise the red flag. This fool going on about Apple being scary but I guess their deal was a bust. neutral Now this.

And he don't even play that piano that much. He should get the heed that he can't be relevant. Might as well go back to the underground... oh wait he can't do that, he already done sold out like Hammer.

Wait a minute, I still love the sound of synths & drum machines. The real problem is too much MIDI programming all the time. Musicians & composers needs to start playing those instruments loose again on pure audio only.
