Yellow Submarine - The Film

Just watched it for the first time...

What a gorgeous film love One thing for sure though, it seemed like everybody who was involved in it consumed everything from the drugs' family tree lol

There're some aspects of the film that reminded me of another fave animated film of mine...

But unlike Fantastic Planet, the story seems to go nowhere.

The Beatles were thinking about doing a movie playing killers in drag, bank robbers, or something like that. Brian Epstein wasn't having it. lol So the idea of Yellow Submarine came about (not by the group) to fulfill their movie contract. The group wasn't really interested because they saw their TV cartoon and wasn't that impressed with it, and the movie was made without any participation from them. When they later saw a rough print of the footage, they liked what they saw and asked to film that little cameo at the end.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

MGM owns that film, and they've been having problems. They had put a hold on issuing the rest of the James Bond movies on Blu-Ray, but I guess they've resolved that and Daniel Craig's back on for the next one.

It's been out of print for a decade, so you're lucky to have seen it.

The remake is in post production, so we'll prob. be seeing movie previews soon. Should be pretty cool in 3D/IMAX with the Beatles music in surround. They're just updating the animation and keeping the story the same. The glove, Jeremy, and all of that will prob. be in this film. And of course, Y

I do think now that the remasters and the itunes are out there, they're going to start focusing on Blu Ray versions of the Anthology, A Hard Days Night, Help, Magical Mystery Tour, Yellow Submarine.

Let It Be has never been out on DVD, and both Yoko and Paul have said it'll be out eventually. Simple reason why they don't care - it chronicles the breakup, as a movie, it kind of drags a bit. If you've seen Metallica's "Some Kind of Monster", you see them on the verge of a breakup but it's more entertaining to watch. Even if you don't like their music, it's a better film than LIB. It's one of those things they'll put out without much fanfare, because they know people aren't going to run out and get it the day it comes out. The remasters on itunes had over 1 million downloads the first week it went online. The Cirque De Soleil project is one of the biggest shows in Vegas. Beatles Rock Band. Lennon's 70th birthday (and 30th of his passing) was a bigger priority. There's just other stuff that takes a higher priority because it makes them more money.

I'd like to see the put a video collection and a live concert collection out though. The Ready Steady Go's never been released on DVD, and the Ed Sullivan shows have been rereleased. And once in a while, the mid 60s cartoon from Saturday mornings are aired on TV. It's been a while though.

I think as far as memorabilia goes, everything tied to this movie has probably made them the most money, because it's still popular with kids and adults.
