Smell Test:

I posted this on the other Madonna thread also but thought it would be fun with it's own thread.

For people that actually own Like A Prayer cd.....

Check this out. I know this will sound strange but has anyone ever noticed the scent that is present on LAP booklet? It's like a musk oil scent. I remember pointing this out back in 1989 and I recently bought a used copy and it's on there as well. Like I said sounds crazy but get out your copy and tell me you notice this. My roomate did and he agreed. Not sure if this applies to the cassette or album versions because I never owned them. Only the cd.

I owned the album on vinyl and it was indeed scented.

I never smelled the CD though.

Looks like i will be going back to sniff it when I get home

I thought it was more the booklet than the actual cd but maybe it's both. I'm not really sure. I think it's the only scented cd/booklet I've ever owned. Lol.

Yes there is a distinct scent to it. I have the cassette of Like A Prayer and I remember smelling the scent on the cassette jacket. I read somewhere that it's the scent of Patchouli, and all the cassette and cd jackets carried the scent.

That's what it is! I knew it smelled familiar. lol. Pure genius. I'm surprised Prince never attempted anything like this.

And you know what? After all these years, the scent is still there! Smells wonderful! But I've always been a fan of Patchouli

Parade had a smell to it also which was nice, the LAP smelled like shit much like madonna.

I bought a used copy of the LP and had just assumed the previous owner had musked it all up. I had no idea it was intentionally done by WB. Damn, you'd think the smell would have worn off after 21 years. I just took a whiff and that album is still stinking up my other records.

They must have used an extra-concentrated oil for the scent to last this long, its been over 20 years!

Can't say my MP3 has an odor , but I definitely recall my CD's fragrance from back in the day. Funny to hear it was patchouli, though. It smelled more like pine to me.

oh and for "smelled like shit much like madonna" but she actually said at the time of

it's release that the smell reminded her of prince.

I have the cassette (so funny to type this word!) It still smells ;-p

I bet it's in the ink rather than simply being sprayed on after the fact.

I will never forget having my mom take me to buy the cd coming home and unraveling it and her explaining 1) what aids was per the handout inside (a disease adults get from 'exchanging fluids') and 2) that 'patchuli oil' (sp?) was the scent that smelled like the the catholic church.

later in life my friend told me that it's the smell of "dirty unemployed hippies," lol.

Regarding the oil scent of Madonna's Like A Prayer insert, anyone remember the floral scent of the insert of Stevie Wonder's Journey Through the Secret Life of Plants album? I remember my uncle's vinyl copy had a scent that smelled good, but the fragrance ate the material of the vinyl and nearly dirtied up the package itself.

I thought the cassette had a lavender smell to it.

Kinda sad, but that album (and the smell of Patchouli on my vinyl) made me so happy as a teen, that I always dab on the oil on each side of my neck as an adult everyday...that smell still makes me happy. And some people (over a certain age) comment and say, "You smell like the "Like A Prayer" album
