Singer Jill Scott and her longtime record label settled dueling litigation in which she and the company alleged the other side did not honor the terms of a recording agreement.
In a complaint filed in February 2010 in Los Angeles Superior Court, Hidden Beach Records sought unspecified damages for the money lost when Scott allegedly failed to fulfill her obligations.
Scott later countersued, making claiming Hidden Beach broke promises made to her.
However, lawyers for the record label filed papers Tuesday with Judge Ruth A. Kwan stating that the case was resolved. No terms were divulged.
According to Hidden Beach's complaint, the company believed its relationship with the singer would continue through the end of the contract and that both sides had worked on developing her next three CDs, including the next one called The Sun.
"It was therefore a complete surprise shock to Hidden Beach when ...Scott informed (the label) through her attorneys that she has decided to move on and will no longer perform recording services for Hidden Beach," the suit stated.
Despite the filing of the lawsuit, Hidden Beach "still holds great affection and regard for Scott and ... is deeply saddened by the recent acrimony...," the complaint stated.
Scott's countersuit alleged Hidden Beach was trying to block her chance to shop her services on the open market.
She maintained she was entitled to do so under a state law that states no contract for personal services, including a recording deal, is enforceable for more than seven years.
