Thanks for the feedback guys! Maybe because I didn't recognize his name or song until yesterday, I didn't realize past post. lol

I was mad young when it came out but the melody never left me. Isn't that something? Until yesterday I would only hum or whistle the melody.

Thanks for the LATE PASS wink

Early on I think he was seen as a "poor man's Elvis Costello" but even so, Look Sharp is a classic. Great songs from beginning to end.

He lacks some of the subtleties of Elvis, he is a little more sarcastic & in your face, and he is not as good a singer IMO. But the comparison is not really fair anyway. They are different on the whole. His music is very hooky and clever, and he is incredibly verasatile.

My favorite albums are probably:

Look Sharp

I'm The Man

Night & Day

Jumpin Jive (covers of swing/blues)

Big World

also to check out is the album "IV" by the Joe Jackson Band this was from around 2003, kind of his return to writing pop/rock band type songs like his earlier stuff in the later 70's early 80's. He is very underrated but i dont think he really gives a shit, hes that type of a person too, very in your face like you said, his lyrics are a bit more "biting" than say Elvis Costello, i actually dig his vocal style, to me the comparison of him and Elivs is kind of like the Springsteen and Mellencamp comparison, in that case i feel that someone like Mellencamp is more of a "woody guthrie" type writer and Bruce is arena type guy. But it is always interesting to see what Joe is going to do next, i remember back in the early 80's he hated "videos" he blasted them and what they were doing to music, then he made the "steppin out" video then stopped pretty much with videos.

yes, and to dismiss someone as a "poor man's _____ " often means you're not listening close enough & jumping to conclusions

I know people who like Joe Jackson a lot more than Elvis

yeah to me the only thing similar with them are the fact that they have very loyal fan bases, you either like them or you dont, plus they have work that isnt so easy to just get into, it takes alot of listens. I remember going to see Joe Jackson back when he had the classical album he did, now for that he wrote a whole story around it, stage show etc..he played the beacon theatre, pretty full crowd, but he played nothing but that album straight through, he was almost booed at one point for not doing "hits", but it wasnt billed like that, it was billed as the classical show, but thats the type person he is, i dont like when people say that only PRINCE does stuff like that, i know TONS of artists that on occasion just go out and do their new album and drop the hits for shows.
