Soho ~ Hippychick

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I bought their cassette (yes, cassette!) based off the strength of this song.

my friend plays soho on her radio show a lot. certainly a clever use of 'how soon is now'- which is actually a GREAT song, without morrissey singing all over it.

Great song. Didn't Morrissey sue them for using the How Soon Is Now? sample?

I loved this tune, back in the day. That riff from How Soon Is Now was just crying out to be sampled. Apparently, they had to give Moz and Marr a hefty cut of the royalties, though, as they lifted it without permission. mad

Yeah, I think he an Johnny Marr ended up getting 25 percent of the royalties.

if you ask me, they did a better job of singing over it than he did. i love marr's playing though, which is the reason i actually owned smiths records at some point in my life. i truly wished they came out with instrumentals.

Do not speak ill of the Moz! no no no!

Actually, my older sister used to play their records all the time in the mid-80s, and I hated them then - especially his singing! I've learned to love them since, and I even enjoy Morrisey's delivery (like an angst-ridden teenager in a over-the-top huff!) now. razz
