El DeBarge: Soul Crooner Enters Rehab  El DeBarge: Soul Crooner Enters RehabBlackVoices.com can now report that R&B veteran El DeBarge has entered a drug rehabilitation center.
Having known for several weeks that the 'Second Chance' singer was facing some challenges in regards to his sobriety, his label Geffen Records has now confirmed and issued a statement about DeBarge seeking treatment. "I hate to disappoint my fans but it is necessary for me to take the time to work on me so that I may continue to share  my music and my story with everyone. I thank everyone in advance for their prayers and well wishes and hope that you will respect my privacy during this time," stated DeBarge.Though Geffen Records is saying the 49-year-old singer "voluntarily checked himself" into rehab, BlackVoices.com knows that DeBarge had a serious relapse in recent weeks and it was rap star 50 Cent who played a significant part in helping get the singer into a recovery facility. Regardless, all of DeBarge's personal appearances and shows have been postponed. The singer was slated to appear on the R&B star Kem's 'Intimacy Tour' with Ledisi, which kicks off on Feb. 17 in Houston. It is sad.
He seemed to be doing so well, but when it comes to addiction, it's not something that goes away over night. It's a journey, sometimes a life long process, so i'm glad that he realized that he had a problem and is taking the necessary steps to get better. I wish him the very best. I only wanted to get tix to see El anyway so i'm glad I didn't spend my money.
I'm sure he'll reschedule though, but more importantly, I hope he gets the help he needs.

I'm going next Thursday in NYC. My friend is a big Kem fan.
I like Musiq Soulchild, so it's not a total loss. I was looking forward to hearing El Debarge again, tho- I saw him back in November, and he sounded weak. I was hoping he'd sound stronger this time. Me too. That was the only reason why I was going to go, but now I can save the money and spend it elsewhere. I do hope and pray that he recovers. Most importantly I'm proud that he recognized that he needed to go back into rehab. Of course his re-emergence of success was going to put him in the similar environments before with temptations all around him...guess he wasn't able to deal quite yet, but glad he recognized that he needed help instead of continuing on as if nothing was wrong. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince. | |

He's human. He isn't perfect. Just because he might have kicked it once or twice doesn't mean he's officially "cured". C'mon now. The man deserves credit for even RECOGNIZING that he needed to go back to rehab. You don't get over a 25 year drug habit in what 1-2 years. Let's be realisitic and less judgemental. Has nothing 2 do with judgemental. I don't waste my time with drug addicts. That includes anyone that I know related or otherwise. U know damn well that drugs are addictive before u EVER try it. If u get hooked.....u deserve 2 be hooked. | |
