I'm not a fan of either artist but I would like to know how the Grammy committee (or whoever decides these things) defines the word "new." Esperanza Spalding released her first album in April, 2006, nearly five years ago. That doesn't seem like someone that should be eligible for best new artist.

They changed the rules to something along the line that when an artist "finds their audience" or some such BS. Thats why the grammy's are a joke and have lost what cred they once had.

True, some of them did, but it wasn't as ubiquitous at that time as it is now, and many of them were using AOL or dial-up services. Plus MySpace, Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter didn't exist at that time. Electronic temper tantrums couldn't spread as virally then as they do now.

What? Katt weighing in on this mess? eek

I swear people take things way too seriously sometimes. Justin was probably dissappointed for like an hour or two but then checked his bank account and soon said "fuck it!"

The Grammys are an opportunity for artists to acknowledge other artists...it aint the AMAs, People's Choice or that award show where they drop a half a ton of green goo on the winner.

I don't pay attention to Katt because I'm trying to avoid buffoonery this month but his tweet popped up because she was a trending topic

And the winner is Esperanza Spalding ..............nigga is that a new vaginal cream

Yall know every mother fuker in the grammys had to #lowkey pull out their blackberry n google that bitch when she won

I seen will smiths son in Lepoard tights tonight, and some bitch name ESPERANZA win best new artist #ImDone #FuckTheGrammys

I mean fuck at least let @justinbieber win if not Drake but ESPERANZA some bitch we gotta go google

ESPERANZA <---- shit sound like some face wash

That's a good question. I always figured Best song was the one the voters thought was most well done artisticaly and Best Record being the one they felt was the best sonic or technical recording. Who knows just a guess.

That's the problem with Wikipedia: any asshole can enter there and "write" some offensive bullshit. I'm glad that Wikipedia has the "this page is momentarily locked-no more edits for now" option...

That is exactly why a site like Citizendium is needed as a Wikipedia-alternative. No rookies like those Justin Bieber-fanatics who ever be welcome as staff writers to begin with. No trolls. No flamebaiters. No bullshiting.

Song of the Year is for those whose song was really "heartfelt" and "artistic". Record of the Year is much like Album of the Year (it's a mixture of best technical recording, best sonic sound, best songs, or just overall popular throughout the year).

No, thanks. I prefer books, the only thing I can tolerate reading on a computer is short articles. smile

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I like to read books as well. But this iPhone/Facebook/Twitter generation are too lazy to do their own research. That's why Citizendium needs more articles so it can continue to be more reliable than Wikipedia.

To be honest I dont know much bout the guy, nor have I heard anything hes sung exept for that one chorus. He was great on Chelsea Lately. Honest, friendly and seemed like over all a okay kid.

omg Since when did his opinion matter about who won for what at the Grammy awards? Maybe he's mad because those bullshit rap albums of his never got nominated. Dang, just because he's the same height as the kids who are acting like brats and need ass whuppings by their parents doesn't mean that he has to act like them too. disbelief He's ruined his own career.

wow... well if WE have all heard of her here on this forum... what's HIS problem? i never found katt williams funny, ESPECIALLY his jokes about michael. but this stuff about ms. spaulding is WAAAAAAAAY beyond anything he's said about michael. that's just childish.

again, i never heard bieber, but i HAVE heard ms. spaulding, and i think she's quite good. the idea of bieber as we see him appears to be created due to mindless manufacturing, and ms. spaulding was coming up for some years now.

the utter disrespect williams shows for, as someone i know says, "america's (only) classical music" shows how immature he is. that he don't wanna see a 'woman of colour' coming up (who plays a mean bass). he wants to see some manufactured kid who (as far as i know) came out of nowhere.

i never heard the kid speak before. wow, he really is a little kid. i don't think they should throw him out there like that to the wolves. at least ms. spaulding has a little bit of cynicism it seems, at least in interviews i've seen with her. i just saw how large of an age difference they had, when she mentioned his mother. wow...

the problem with JB is that he's a fuckin' kid. And I'm talking about sex. He always looks nervous and slighty irritated because hot & interesting +25 years old women don't take him seriously.
