Esperanza 'Quesadilla' Spalding? Best New Artist Winner's Wikipedia Page Attacked By Justin Bieber Fans

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Hell hath no fury like scorned teens with Internet access!

Esperanza Spalding took home the Grammy Award for Best New Artist on Sunday Night - and then sent legions of Justin Bieber fans into an online rage!

Following her big win, the jazz singer's Wikipedia page weathered an onslaught of nasty updates and edits, all of which have since been taken down or corrected. Gawker.com captured screen grabs of the spewed teen angst that came from die-hard fans of the Canadian singer, who were still processing the fact that their beloved Biebs was beat by a jazz singer.

Her middle name was changed to both "Quesadilla" and "Justin" on Sunday night. Another particularly angry fan wrote, "SHE IS F****** REATARD THAT NO ONE HAS HEARD OF SO B**** PLEASE DIE !" No word if the irony of the misspelling in this Wiki edit was lost on the angry fan.

The anti-Esperanza additions continued with, "She now has the 2011 Grammy for being the Best new Artist! Even though no one has ever heard of her! Yay!" and "JUSTIN BIEBER DESERVED IT GO DIE IN A HOLE. WHO THE HECK ARE YOU ANYWAY?"

One edit also praised Esperanza and slammed the 16-year-old pop singer.

"HaHa Justin Bieber, you're just a little boy with no Grammy for Best New Artist," another user wrote.

Fuming Bieber fans weren't the only ones to take note of the 26-year-old jazz singer and bassist.

Khloe Kardashian Tweeted, "I wish I knew who Esperanza Spalding was but now I must buy her music to hear her sing. Best New Artist, I need to get up to speed. I'm slow" and Taraji P. Henson wrote on her Twitter, "Congratulations to Esperanza Spalding!!! She is an AMAZING artist! #realmusic"

Access Hollywood's own hosts were also swept away by Esperanza's big win.

Billy Bush Tweeted, "Esperanza spalding....so there!" and Shaun Robinson wrote, " I LOVE Esperanza Spaulding!"

It seems they're also leaving comments on her videos at Youtube.

This is what happens when you have a generation raised knowing just the internet world. And also a bigger problem with Wiki itself.

I don't use Wiki. If I want to find out something, I go to the library and check out a book about it.

Seriously parents need to stop being their kids' friends and stop them from using the internet to do stupid attacks. I'm sure Esperanza is brushing this aside.

these kids are attacking a freaking artist? wow... the academy voted for her. this is how narrow we as a culture are encouraged to be. she did an AMAZING version of 'i can't help it' though- the best i've heard since the original!

That's why his career's went the way of Kid's fade cut. The reason he "retired" is because people were tired of his same jokes for two years ass.

People (not just kids and teens) attack most performers. Go to a Van Halen video, and people are arguing David vs. Sam, or mocking Eddie for firing Michael Anthony to put his son in the band. Then there's the endless prog fans saying Phil Collins ruined Genesis, when there's other members in the group or the "pop" Genesis fans saying the earlier version was weird. I remember looking at some Prince video and there were people arguing over whether Prince, MJ, or TTD was better. Sometimes there's racial comments or other insults about the act. A lot of people click on videos just to say the act sucks or that the video is "gay" (ie. Mornin' by Al Jarreau). If you don't like them, why waste time watching their video? I don't read the comments anymore.

oh, i agree... but if you are an adult acting like a child, i'm still gonna call you a child. some physical children have more maturity than these adults. these are comments people would not say to anyone in person.

there are some good dialogs on youtube (i love the ones on philosophy and such) but yeah, when you see all the examples like the ones you named, there's no point in reading.

I said on the grammy thread that Beiber fans are ruthless. They have threatened people for walking with him on a beach or twittering him. They are crazier than MJ fans.

I swear people take things way too seriously sometimes. Justin was probably dissappointed for like an hour or two but then checked his bank account and soon said "fuck it!"

The Grammys are an opportunity for artists to acknowledge other artists...it aint the AMAs, People's Choice or that award show where they drop a half a ton of green goo on the winner.

That's the problem with Wikipedia: any asshole can enter there and "write" some offensive bullshit. I'm glad that Wikipedia has the "this page is momentarily locked-no more edits for now" option...

anyway, the fans of JB are clearly 14-16 years old so I guess this "incident" should not surprise me: a cowardly teen with a keyboard and a password = he/she thinks he's tough, lean and mean

If it's like most girls who adore teen idols, they'll probably be in college at that time and deny ever having been of fan of Justin Bieber in the first place. They'll probably say, "oh it was just a phase when I didn't know better."

The only thing different about Justin Bieber's fans and the fans of other teen idols of the past (sans Jonas Brothers) is that most of them didn't have computers, the internet, or easy access to social networking tools to vent their frustrations and start flame wars. While a lot of teen girls had team Britney and team Christina to join and panicked at the thought of one of the Backstreet Boys getting married, they didn't have direct access to those artists they hated. I remember fans being this rabid over New Kids on the Block and somewhat rabid over New Edition. Some of you probably remember the craze over Leif Garrett, Shaun Cassidy, his brother David, the Jackson 5, and even Bobby Sherman.

I'm not a fan of either artist but I would like to know how the Grammy committee (or whoever decides these things) defines the word "new." Esperanza Spalding released her first album in April, 2006, nearly five years ago. That doesn't seem like someone that should be eligible for best new artist.
