The physical release of 'In Rainbows" was nicely packaged with a full color fold our sleeve, lyrics, and artwork. There were even stickers. According to Rolling Stone this will have a physical release in March. This is what you want...This is what you get.

Hey loudmouth, shut the fuck up, right?

so where to start with them?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
First time I've been a fan of Radiohead when a new release is coming out, really fucking excited What do you guys think it will sound like? I reckon it'll be kind of along the lines of In Rainbows but darkier, heavier and rawer. Though the 8 tracks thing sounds like they're heading towards some sort of post-rock thing haha
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
the problem is, I don't want the newspaper edition either , I just want a normal cd with booklet, that's all. So I'll probably (surely) buy the in store cd release (march 28) or whatever
I just hope that this new album follows the pattern of In Rainbows, but with a harder edge (by harder I mean heavy) and instant melodies and well-crafted choruses. A mix of In Rainbows and The Bends. In Rainbows was often too eerie for its own good, still a very solid album though.

Start at the beginning and listen to each album to hear their growth.

i was introduced to radiohead late... i never heard their early stuff really, but i had a house-mate who liked them, which is how i heard it. and i thought there were a few songs that were beautiful.
i don't know much else by these cats, besides the two records.

ok, i'm being kinda lazy now but is OK Computer their debut or Kid A?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
pablo honey the bends ok computer kid a amnesiac hail to the thief in rainbows the king of limbs
that's the order in which they were released. ok computer is probably a good start, or perhaps even better, in rainbows, since it pretty much showcases all they do.
there have also been a few solo albums. johnny greenwood made some soundtrack albums, all of which are great. there's bodysong and the st to "there will be blood"
phillip selway (the drummer) released a really good, low key solo album last year called "famillial"
and thom had a solo album out called "the eraser", which is quite brilliant.
the only album out of the bunch that i don't like is "pablo honey", their debut, since it sounds very middle of the road and nothing like the radiohead that they became with later albums. basically they've just been getting better and better but if you're new to them, their later albums like kid a and amnesiac can be quite hard to get into since they are quite 'weird'. sublime, yet weird, especially if you haven't heard stuff like ok computer before it.
to me, kid a and amnesiac was their prime period tho. even the bsides from those years are phenomenal. stuff like "the amazing sounds of ogry" is mindblowing.
but if i had to suggest them to someone who doesn't know anything about them and have them get a decent impression of what they do, i'd stik with "in rainbows" since it balances somewhere between ok computer and their more experimental stuff.

I'm excited!
AFAIC, The Bends and OK Computer are the twin towers of Radiohead's catalog. I've enjoyed every album since those two, but not quite as much. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Color me flippin' out! Two x 10"? Hells yeah! I wonder if the two 10 inches have different music than whats on the CD? Have to check out the length of the digital version to get an idea, I guess. But In Rainbows had bonus tracks that definitely made me love that album even more. Also, 625 tiny pieces? A puzzle of some sort? Lastly, so thankful there is somebody out there like Radiohead who is willing to risk their "fame" by stepping away from the major label system and do it how they want on their own.

Radiohead's New Album Heralds Dawn of Digital Distribution Feb 17, 2011
English Alternative Rock band Radiohead has unveiled their much-awaited new album, titled The King of Limbs, through the revolutionary download only distribution model.
The album, which will be available for download this Saturday, is the second album to be released via digital download.
The King of Limbs is the band's first album since 2007's In Rainbows, which was also released in the same download-first distribution model. However, for new album, there will not be a "pay what you want" or otherwise free option provided for the previous album. The latest album download will come at a fixed price of about $9.00.
The band's eighth studio album will be available for download through a website from Saturday, Feb. 19. Fans will be able to pick between mp3 and .wav formats.
CD and vinyl editions of the new album are slated to be released on March 28. The band is boasting of its vinyl edition as the world's first "newspaper album," referring to its elaborate jacket which folds out like a newspaper.
Radiohead first released the details of the album on Monday. The King of Limbs was produced by longtime Radiohead musical collaborator Nigel Godrich.
A new press photo shows Radiohead leaning against a tree, seemingly throwing light on the inspiration behind the album. The King of Limbs is said to have been named after an oak in Wiltshire's Savernake Forest, which is believed to be close to 1,000 years old.
One crucial detail that the band has not released is the full track listing, giving raise to frenzied rumors and speculations. There is also a flurry of reports on the possibility of a show in Japan after the band tweeted on the album in Japanese.
Radiohead shook up the music industry when it released the In Rainbows album in 2007, by allowing fans to download the album for free or whatever price they chose to pay.
Although the 2007 album release held far more significance with respect to the connection between money, music (or any form of art) and skyrocketing piracy rates, The King of Limbs heralds the beginning of digital distribution in the music industry.
The band has produced and self-released independently of any major record label. There is no corresponding iTunes launch.
This model makes possible a direct linkage between the musician and the fans. It also cuts costs and consequently the album is cheaper with no label overheads. When given an option -- as in the case of the 2007 Radiohead album -- people may not hesitate to pay more. Moreover, digital download model does not completely wipe out the physical releases which mostly attract the collectors or hardcore fans.

Is it that time again to hope fo a return of their less pretentious brilliance, only for all hope to be dashed?
I don't think they will ever better The Bends and OK Computer (so parts of Amnesiac came close).
They need to come down off this 15 wallow in self genius. .
