I believe they give out 87 different awards over 26 categories, so they only give out 12 to 15 awards during the main telecast. Those awards include the big four awards (Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best New Artist), usually a pop performance award, a country performance award, a rock performance award, a lifetime achievement award, and some others depending on which genre was the most dominant on the charts that year.
