For every Shelby Lynne, there's a Beatles, Mariah, Alicia, Sade, etc.

SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!! They got that one right! Go 'head, Esperanza!! clapping

Sure did! clapping

Gotta seriously disagree with you here. no no no! hmph! I'm sure she's an exceptionally talented jazz musician, but outside of jazz circles this pick is going to rank right up there with Marc Cohn and just behind Rickey Lee Jones and Shelby Lynne as a WTF were they thinking moment. Granted, this year's list of nominees weren't especially strong, and B.o.B was a glaring omission. And apparently Bruno Mars missed out because his album was released just five days after the Grammy deadline.

Congrats Esperanza! Still strange that she was nominated considering she's released albums for a couple years. Proves good music can be recognized.

nah... they changed the rules years ago... it doesnt matter that if a artist released previous albums.. they go buy the year the artist found their audience (gained commercial success)

The Grammys aren't supposed to be a popularity contest. That's what the Billboard Awards are for.

Who cares if 2 million people or 2 people know her. The acknowledgement was based on her talent.

No, Esperanza deserved it. Apparently you must have missed the pre-show Grammys that was aired online between 4pm-6pm (EST), because Bruno Mars already won a grammy, for best pop male vocal. His was the last grammy announced at the pre-show today.

But on that statement alone, they should have nominated B.o.B. over either Justin Bieber or Drake.
