“She was making fun music for girls my age,” recalls Newsdays Dixon, who was 12-years-old when Spears kick started her record-breaking career. “When ‘Baby One More Time’ came out, I never had to worry about my parents saying, ‘I don’t want you listening to that.’ Britney grew up with her fans. As we got older and matured and went through different issues, she went through the same things and sang about it. When people said Britney was pushing the envelope and was being too sexy, she worked with the Neptunes and came out with ‘I’m A Slave 4 U.’ It was if she was saying, ‘What?!!! I’m over 21 and I’m having sex!’ There’s a strong relatable factor there.”

This is a big factor for me. I look at her sometimes and think "She was the only one "there" for me when I needed comfort" even if it was musically. I went through hell when I was younger and just have such a fresh, young, happy young woman to escape with was all I needed to help me feel better. It was heartbreaking to see her try to find her way without a guy in her life (yep, I think a lot of her problems stem from desperate need for male validation) and to see how far someone could really fall if they let themselves. There's a lot of honesty in her life story, even though people insist she's manufactured, there's more truth in her walking down the street with bad hair and tired eyes than in most boring ass perfect celebrities entire careers. She shows Hollywood up for how fake it is sometimes. But then other times she feeds right into that same fakeness. I find her endlessly interesting and I think the most intriguing part is how unaware she is of her own impact. I think...

As she said : People can take everything away from you, but they can never take away your truth. The question is: "Can you handle mine?"

Try some of her music. If you're a fan of Janet try Kiss You All Over, or Overprotected Darkchild Remix. They're pretty Janet-ish. I always thought Britney could've owned All Nite, too.

i actually don't really like ms. jackson's music after 'rhythm nation'. i think she sang too much about sex, sounding thinner than usual, and taking too many of her clothes off. i was REALLY turned off when i saw clips of her performances, climbing on those dudes, singing 'do you mind if i do this, that or other to you'... it's just not my thing. i prefer when she sang about freedom and political stuff. i think i'm one of the few on this forum who happens to not be all that into her. i respect her work ethic though. she takes after her big brother in that way.

i could be wrong, but this is what i see a lot of women in modern music who are influenced by janet doing... they seem more influenced by the post-'rhythm nation' stuff, with the lack of clothes and suggestive dancing. i miss the janet that was influenced by 'captain eo'.

She never was. RN-era Janet was influenced by what she saw on CNN, and the general unrest that was going on in the world at the time (and still is to this day). She recruited an unknown street dancer (Anthony Thomas) and a break dancer, choreographer, stuntman (Terry Bixler), and together, they came up with the innovative RN choreography. It had nothing to do with MJ, as much as I love him. She didn't have little aliens in her video or Anjelica Houston running around as an evil queen. It was her own thing. MJ did acknowledge, however, that he LOVED "The Knowledge" from the RN album, and there is some footage of him rehearsing his dance moves to it on Youtube I believe.

then michael was innacurate, as he stated in an interview she came to him, loving the choreography from captain eo. i'm not saying she COPIED the 'EO' choreography; i am just saying she was influenced by it. it obviously wasn't the same exact choreography, but she was influenced by the basic premise. they were influenced by each other, such as the 'black panther' from the 'black or white' film.

You all are SO on point with these examples. Madonna gets all the media props when it comes to the influence of the younger generation of female performers, when Janet is just as much of an influence, if not more in some instances. This is the reason the younger generation isn't as acutely aware of just how much Janet has accomplished. When they see Britney doing sexy, intricate choreography, or performing a dance routine with a chair, Janet has already done it. When they see Rihanna sporting bright red curly hair and tatts, Janet has already done it. When they see Mya dance-battling male dancers in a desert, or Ciara moving seductively while exposing her midrif, or Beyonce performing militant choreography on-stage, or Cassie dancing in front of mirrors in a warehouse, Janet has already done it. When they see Kelly Rowland in a space suit and ponytail, Janet has already done it. When they see Usher or Chris Brown dancing in the streets wearing pinstriped zoot suits, Janet has already done that, too. If the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame would open its biased eyes and see who the real nucleus for a lot of these younger performers really is, then maybe they would finally get up off their duffs and induct her.

I think...

yeahthat

That's The thing though, There's just too many of them!!!! excited

First There's BoA

<--- Funny how people say she copies Britney, But who does Britney Copy?

Then It's Ciara

Aaliyah

And people Act Like Janet didn't inspire that. As I said any Female singer who incorporates Dance into their performance was influenced by Janet. Simple as that.

Including Britney wink If that didn't simlar to Janet's "If" Choreography I dont know what did.

Britney Spears is always “flattered” to be compared to pop icon Madonna

The 29-year-old singer took to Twitter yesterday to chat openly with loyal fans. During the conversation, she revealed that when fans cite similarities between her and pop legend Madonna she is thrilled.

The pop singers recorded song Me Against the Music together in 2003. The track was successful, peaking at the top of the charts in many countries and won the Hot Dance Single of the Year accolade at the 2004 Billboard Music Awards. The accompanying music video shows Britney and Madonna playing opposites in a nightclub. A cat-and-mouse chase ensues and Britney finds Madonna in the end, only for the latter to disappear before they kiss.

"It's so flattering!" she said. "I really LOVE Madonna and she has been a huge inspiration for me."

Madonna, 52, wasn’t the only star Britney was asked about in to open chat with devoted fans. The star – who influenced the revival of teen pop during the late 90s – believes Lady Gaga is unbelievably talented.

"I love Lady Gaga. I think she's a really interesting artist,” she wrote.

Mother-of-two Britney also provided some revealing insights into her forthcoming album, Femme Fatale, during the online chat.

"I would describe it as moody, edgy pop with A LOT of energy. I co-wrote a couple of songs. I think it's some of the best work I have ever done. There are a few mid-tempos that could be considered ballads," she said. “I'm so excited and I can't wait for you guys to hear it. I think its some of the best work I have ever done (sic)!”

The singer dispelled rumours that she will be attending the Grammys this weekend. She took the opportunity to the clear the air during the live chat.

"I won't be there and was never planning on going," she said

yet the media credit madonna as really her only influnce and alot of her fans don't really know that janet jackson is an influence to her, in general you hear how britney influence rihanna, cheryl cole, miley cyrus, which is kinda ashamed that she's getting more reconition then one of her music idols, the young kids are always britney i madonna music child queen and princess of pop but when janet had a great deal of influence also

It's Because Britney's white and Janet's Black.Period. I usually dont like bringing race into it but If britney Was the same color as Ciara or aaliyah She would've been compared to Janet In a heartbeat. But seeing that madonna and britney interract more with eachother and seeing that Britney looked like Madonna in her younger years

it would APPEAR that Madonna influenced her the most.

Come on now rolleyes Those two pics are not similar. Sure Britney is heavily influenced by Janet but what else is new? and why do you guys keep posting those two low quality gifs? lol

I think that montage video on the first page is a better example of Janet's influence on her.

Nothing is "new". We are discussing how Janet has influenced her and never gets cred for it. Is that bothering you? lol BTW, those Son of a Gun/Overprotected gifs are just an immediate example of said influence.
