TUPAC - The Movie I honestly don't know how I feel about this...just yet. Apparently, it was announced today that:
http://globalgrind.com/ch...-underway/
Though, I didn't particularly care for Training Day or Brooklyn's Finest, which was another movie directed by Antoine Fuqua because I personally, think they were critically acclaimed for all the wrong reasons.
I am very intrigued at the prospect of there finally being a REAL movie done about the REAL life and times of the late Tupac Amaru Shakur.
The question is...who should play Tupac?
I always though "Q" from Moesha and of the group Onyx- Fredro Starr
would have been perfect for the role but since it took so long for this movie to come to pass...I'm not so sure anymore.
Maybe an unknown actor would be better.
What do you guys think? Let's discuss.

I'm getting bored of hearing about these biopics and nothing really emerging from it. I'm still awaiting those Marvin Gaye films five years later.

Yeah, I most certainly feel you...on that! However, according to other reports:

If Afeni has giving her blessing, hopefully she won't let them pussy foot around with it. I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Even with that I'm not too sure about it...

Honestly, I think a Tupac film should have come out before Notorious (the film about biggie). Biggie was good but Pac was epic and he is still discussed and revered today. Though not sure, I think one of those Ivy League schools featured a course on the man.
Antoine Fuqua did a great job with Training Day; shit it got Denzel an Oscar! However King Arthur left a lot to be desired. I haven't seen Brooklyn's Finest but the film reviews appeared to be more favorable than not.
If he is passionate about the project, allows consulting from those closest to Pac and doesn't go with the general casting calls e.g. not the same ole faces we see time and time again, the project should come off a success. Oh and please lets get a big budget and cast an unknown to play Pac. If my ex weren't so old and dumb he could play Pac cuz he looks alot like him and has the same hood goofy laugh!
Please let it happen and let it be done right!
p.s. the dude that played Pac in Biggie's movie made him more of a caricature and not very likeable so uh, we don't need to see him again. I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!
RIP Dick Clark, Whitney Houston, Don Cornelius, Heavy D, and Donna Summer.

I agree with everything you said, with the exception that...I took offense to Training Day being the movie that got Denzel his Oscar. Every time I think about all the movies, he's DESERVED Oscars for and didn't get but they finally decided to give him one for Training Day, it pisses me off. Hell, he wasn't even trying. He could have did that shit in his sleep!

^ you got a point.
Denzel should have won for:
The Great Debaters A Soldier's Story Antoine Fisher Crimson Tide
at least he got one for Glory. He did get it for Glory right? I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

Yeah, he got a Supporting Actor Oscar for Glory.
He should have won the Best Lead Actor one also for:
Malcom X - He was nominated but it went to Al Pacino for Scent of a Woman - I was bummed but not too mad about that because I thought Al did a great job in that and did deserve it.
The Hurricane - He was nominated but it went to Kevin Speacy for American Beauty - That pissed me off ROYALLY!
To get back on topic: There's some small talk about Trey Songz being Tupac. If they even consider that I might have to hurt somebody! I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

i think a lot of people would dis-agree with this, but somehow i see john legend playing marvin gaye. i saw this for years, and i got laughed at.

I can't see John Legend doing Marvin... guess I'm biased I don't know...
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
you're not alone on that. i think i am the only one who sees him doing this.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
who could you see playing marvin?

Jesse L. Martin from "Law And Order" has already said he is dying to play the role. He can sing in real life also and he's a great actor. He is perfect for the Marvin role.
I remember reading in magazines that the pre production started (and then stopped) on the film covering the final years of Marvin's life. Supposedly Notown is having problems with the music publishing..but what else would you expect from Notown?
Back in 1998 HBO Films was interested in doing a Tupac bio flick and the actor they picked looked EXACTLY like Tupac. But I guess those plans fell thru. Fuqua might do a good job with it.

If I have to pick I say Omar Epps for Tupac.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
But I hear about this movie since last summer tho...you know how it goes...
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I like the documentaries but I've really been wanting a real movie of Tupac's life though. I like Fredro Starr but I don't think he'd make a good Tupac.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I agree. There was supposed to be a movie with Jesse playing Marvin but I don't know whatever became of it.
I'd already thought he'd be perfect for the role but when he sang I'll Cover You (Reprise) in the movie version of RENT, I was CONVINCED!

Who would you prefer? I'm going with an unknown actor. That way, no other roles or anything would get in the way of their portrayal and we could judge it, solely based on it's merits. A known actor would have to do too much of an exceptionally PHENOMINAL job.
Expectations would be too high. Especially mine's! I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Omar is a wonderful actor but I just don't think I could see him as Tupac.
I think I'd keep seeing him as "Q" trying to impersonate "Bishop" from the movie Juice. That wouldn't work for me, at all. I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

And I'm still waiting on Aaliyah's...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA! you may have a point.

Maybe who knows...lol. I just hope whoever gets the part is worth it. I love 'Pac.

I LOVE this song, and the show RENT (..saw it performed on Broadway 5 times over the course of it's run). Plus I have all the RENT CD's, DVD's, and even have the sheet music to the play. And I'd absolutely buy into seeing Jesse perform in a movie as Marvin Gaye. I LOVE Jesse's voice and personality. But I'd have absolutely NO INTEREST in seeing a Tupac movie. Tupac really pissed me off in the years that led up to his murder. I was not the least bit surprised that someone killed him. Though may he be resting peacefully.

Sadly, I don't think he could have begged for those bullets any harder if he had tried. Either he was suicidal/crazy, felt that he was bullet-proof, or thought that he lived in Magic Land where bullets don't really kill people. I remember more than one interview with him before he died where he was essentially inviting someone to TRY and kill him, while at the same time calling his perceived enemies all kinds of MF's.
I really liked 2Pac when he was with Digital Underground, and will never forget the concert I attended with them, Naughty By Nature, and Queen Latifah back in the day. Everybody showed that boy MAD LOVE, and you could see that he felt it. But Tupac lost me soon after "Juice" dropped. I had a lot of LOVE for Tupac, but yeah; he pissed me off something fierce in the end. I don't know how many times he had me shouting at my TV: "Yo 2Pac! Shut The F-Up!!!" Next thing I knew... BLAM! BLAM! BLAM!
