I'd have thought for all the love of funk, soul and RnB on this board there may have been some comments of approval. Surely I'm not the only one smitten with this album at the moment?

I've got this album, haven't played it recently though. Recently meaning last couple of weeks.

Do you think it's a bold move and interesting direction to take?

I think it's a great album actually, when I heard Cee lo was chasing the spotlight, as it seemed from what he was saying in interviews I wasn't so sure, but it really is a solid album with a number of really good tracks, there is only one track I skip, which is pretty good going..

Think the lyrics are pretty terrible throughout it -but his voice and the sumptuousness of the music go a long way to make up for it.

Case in point: No one's gonna love u the way that I do

It's quite good, and it's a great concept album. But his first two rap albums with the rest of the Goodie Mob, and his previous solo efforts are better. Not to mention the Gnarls Barkley albums. They are great!

I recommend:

Goodie Mob - Soul Food (one of the most important rap albums of the 90s imo)

Cee-Lo Green and His Perfect Imperfections (his super creative first solo album with)

Gnarls Barkley - St. Elsewhere

Gnarls Barkley - Odd Couple

if the two Gnarls Barkley albums cut the fillers and were combined as one, it would be a classic...

songs like Crazy, Just A Thought, Who's Gonna Save My Soul. These also have great lyrics.

^^Odd couple is probably my favorite although I'm not too familiar with his Goodie Mob albums.

It's never an issue with me as I only listen to the sound of the voice and no longer pay attention to the lyrics. With any artist. It's probably due to the fact that invariably I have always been disappointed with lyrical content.

Only a few songs have ever caught my interest. Up The Junction by Squeeze being a rare example. Poetry. And the line from one of U2's songs "...I don't believe in rape, but every time she passes by wild thoughts escape." I can empathise with that.

Just in case you did not know.....

"No One's Gonna Love you....." is a cover of the Band of Horses track....

I for one am very happy for Lo's crossover success and the recognition that he is now getting. His first two solo records were totally ignored when they shouldn't have been.

Now the big question is "How will he be received when the new Goodie album drops?".

Cee Lo can do any type of music and that is a great thing.

He has now written three of the biggest songs of the past 10 years. "Don't Cha", "Crazy", "F-You". That says something about his talent.

love Cee-Lo, always have. from the intro "Free" off the first Goodie Mob album. he's one of the best writers out there today (which is why i can't fathom NOT listening to his lyrics) with an ability to emote in his voice like few can. i think the timing is bad for a Goodie reunion album tho. most of his fans don't know him from that era and a probably not real fans of hip hop, so not sure how that's gonna fare. his talent has finally been taken note of tho, that's for sure, and rightly so
