Just saw the interview here on WDIV in Detroit. She looks well and appears in very good spirits. She says she's down to a size 16.

I have a friend that says when we see her and she has the 'horse face' look, that is how you know she had gastric bypass, because Etta James, Star Jones, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Karen Clark Sherrad, Twinkie Clark and Patti Austin all had the horse face look - well giddyup folks - 'horse face' mode is in effect.

Pancreatic cancer spins can go to hell now, period!

BTW there a tons of pics all over the net, especially on Yahoo News and typr in Aretha Franklin in photos or images.

The 'horse face' remark was really unnecessary. Actually when anyone older loses a substantial amount of weight whether quickly or not, the face can change dramatically and often not in a good way. I can't see how that could be interpreted as assurance of gastric bypass. I'm not saying that's not what she did. It probably is, but that's not the point, is it? It is also often said that when you lose weight after a certain age that you may give up your face for a better body. Whatever......horse face? That's just mean!

No doctor would approve gastric bypass surgery for a woman of her age, weight and medical condition. Trust!!!! It's just too much of a risk on one's heart.

And like I said, CBS clarified their press statement but they obviously they are comfortable enough in their research to still claim her hospital stay was due to cancer.

That's what I was wondering about... she looked like this last year too pre-surgery.

I think Her Majesty looks tired but she isn't wearing much makeup either, so that may be why. She has lost a LOT of weight but I hope it ain't because she's sick and not recovering. sad

I don't know. People don't usually experience such a dramatic weight loss so soon after gastric bypass surgery. hmm

Soul legend Franklin takes in Pistons game

(AFP) – 5 hours ago

DETROIT, Michigan — "Queen of Soul" Aretha Franklin turned out to see LeBron "King" James and the Miami Heat take on the Detroit Pistons in a National Basketball Association contest in her first public appearance since she had surgery on December 2.

On Friday she was near courtside at the Pistons' Palace of Auburn Hills arena, sitting next to civil rights leader and former US presidential hopeful the Reverend Jesse Jackson.

During one break in the action, the big-screen scoreboard showed Franklin while the public address system played some of her music.

The singing legend acknowledged the crowd's cheers with a wave.

Neither Franklin nor her publicist have confirmed the illness for which the 68-year-old singer has received treatment, but media outlets reported in December that she was battling cancer.

Franklin canceled a number of concerts in October citing "health reasons," while in early November, doctors ordered her to cancel all engagements for the next six months, according to the Detroit News.

Franklin said at halftime she hopes to resume her performing schedule in May, perhaps at Radio City Music Hall in New York.

"Probably starting at Radio City, reschedule what I had to cancel," she said. "I'm feeling really great. Loving the game, loving the game."

Arguably the most influential female singer in the United States in her lifetime, Franklin's powerful, bell-clear voice is unmistakable, from a whisper to full-gospel-choir force that stretched over four octaves.

It has influenced the styles of two generations or more of divas, from Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston -- whose mother was a backup singer for Franklin -- to Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige and Amy Winehouse.

Franklin has continued belting out her old hits into her 60s, and issuing both old and new collections of recordings that still sold strongly 40 years after "Respect" earned her the Queen of Soul title in 1967.

She gave a stirring rendition of "Let Freedom Ring" at President Barack Obama's inauguration in January 2009.
