nod plus I think they felt Michael was overexposed by then. Thinking of the appearances he made, there weren't many:

1985

January- We Are The World

March- London trip

October- Appearance in Australia

1986

May- New York appearance for Pepsi conference and Guiness Book presentation

Inglewood race track appearance

November/December- New York appearance for the Bad videoshoot

[Edited 2/18/11 11:24am]

Releasing a new album in 1984 would've been problematic. Him holding off until 1987 was a wise decision.

Michael registered a lot of songs in 1984 that were recorded between 1975 and 1982.

These might have been considered for BAD and a few for VICTORY.

75 - You AIn't Gonna Change Nothin

76 - Holiday Inn

77 - Ode To Sorrow and Susie

78 - We Are The Ones [It was a Jacksons track so maybe VICTORY]

79 - Got To Find A Way Somehow

79 - You Told Me Your Lovin'

80 - Somewhere In Time

80 - Why Can't I Be

81 - The Toy [VICTORY]

82 - MJ Melody

82 - Stand Tall

PRINCE: Always and Forever
MICHAEL JACKSON: Always and Forever

Ubisoft’s Dance Games Booming, Expect More Michael Jackson

As you might have guessed after seeing the NPD chart for November andDecember, Ubisoft’s dance games are booming. In the third quarter of their ongoing fiscal year alone, Ubisoft’s dance titles (Just Dance, Just Dance 2, Just Dance Kids,Michael Jackson: The Experience and Dance on Broadway) sold over 10.5 million units.

While Just Dance 2 is a Wii-exclusive game, Michael Jackson: The Experience is currently available on Wii, DS and PSP, with Kinect and PlayStation Move versions slated to release in April. Taking all these versions into account, Ubisoft hope to cross sales of 4 million units with Michael Jackson.

Ubisoft CEO, Yves Guillemot, also confirmed during an investor Q&A earlier today, that we’d be seeing more versions of Michael Jackson: The Experience “over the next couple of years” and that we can expect to see the Just Dance franchise expand to other platforms.

they need to dig deepr in Michael's catalog. They should add songs like Scream, shake your body, life of the party, moving violation are a few songs that would be cool to add.

They definitely need to do a revamped edition of the DS version. The game only has

Another Part Of Me

Billie Jean

Heal The World

Bad

The Way You Make Me Feel

Don't Stop Til You Get Enough

Black Or White

Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'

Streetwalker

Leave Me Alone

Smooth Criminal

Beat It

Another Part Of Me, Don't Stop Til You Get Enough, and Leave Me Alone all have Michael in the Motown 25 outfit with the same moveset

Heal The World and Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' have Michael in the Dangerous Tour

The Way You Make Me Feel and Streetwalker have Michael in the TWYMMF outfit

there's not really a difference in moves or appearance. it makes it a lot less interesting than its Wii, Xbox 360, and PSP versions

I don't think people are having a go at you MJJstudent.

They just have a differing point of view on the Rape article. And it's fine for you to post it, but if you want to have a discussion and critique the work you have to be open to people disagreeing just as passionately.

Personally I found the article lacking credibility as I felt it wasn't written objectively but twisted the intent of lyrics to a predisposed point of view. There was no new insight in it (to my point of view).

I don't disagree with you posting it or wanting to discuss it - but as I said you have to be open to other people feeling it is ridiculous, or talking it down. Be open to the same level of critique as the article levelled.

Keep posting, keep in the discussion, and keep open.

i actually didn't post the article though... i just commented on it. and i totally agree with you on the idea of the 'passionate dis-agreement'; i just feel as if i'm getting grief for wanting to discuss the issue.

i'm just trying to find a place where stuff like this could be discussed more often... i actually write essays on this stuff all the time. i actually just wrote an essay on the concept of the icon this morning, which i need to type out. this stuff is like a hobby for me, so...

Jackson estate earns $310million in revenue.
By Alex Dobuzinskis
updated 2/17/2011 9:37:16 PM ET

Michael Jackson's estate has generated $310 million in revenue from album sales, a film, merchandising and other products since the "Thriller" singer died in 2009, according to court papers filed on Thursday.

His estate's administrators have used $159 million to pay down the pop star's debt, which when Jackson died amounted to more than $400 million, court records show.

"Although there remain unresolved creditor claims, pending litigation and additional challenging business, tax and legal issues, and the estate is not yet in a condition to be closed, the executors have made substantial progress in reducing the estate's debt," the documents state.

The records, which were made public as part of the estate's probate proceedings, are the most detailed accounting yet of the finances of Jackson's estate from his death until Dec. 31, 2010.

Beneficiaries of the estate are Jackson's children, his mother and various charities. Attorney John Branca and music executive John McClain were named administrators in a will the "Thriller" singer signed before he died in June 2009 from an overdose of drugs, most prominently the anesthetic propofol.

The singer's physician at the time, Dr. Conrad Murray, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death and has pleaded not guilty.

Jackson's 1982 release "Thriller" remains the best selling album of all time. Industry players think his estate can generate cash for years to come, just as dead stars like Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon and Elvis Presley continue to rake in millions.

Among the projects making money for Jackson's estate are the new album "Michael," which contains previously unreleased songs, and the concert movie "This Is It," which compiled videotaped rehearsals for a series of comeback concerts in London. Various merchandising and licensing deals have also swelled the coffers. Jackson's recordings are released by Epic Records, a unit of Sony Corp.

Noteworthy costs included a $900,000 payment to Forest Lawn Memorial cemetery where Jackson's body is interred, and $35,000 in expenses listed as "costume for memorial."

Administrators paid $27.2 million in taxes, as well as $5.3 million for Jackson family members and properties he owned. They made $4 million in mortgage payments on his properties.

i still wonder if this means that there's less of a chance sony will NOT get another 25% of ATV then, since the folks who run the 'estate' are closer to paying sony back, whatever michael owed them.

i think this is what happens though, when we feel close to someone. it's not unlike grieving for a dear friend, or a close family member. he was a person with feelings, and you felt something from him. he was a father, a brother, a son, a cousin, a friend.

Why not? The album still has another 2 singles on it. Supporting the songs may help exposure of the album and drive sales.

Many fans have been asking for Sony to support the release - seems like they are now.

I agree. It's not too late. The album can still come back on the charts as high as Top 25 if they really get on the ball with promotion. It would be unrealistic now to think they'd replace the questionable selections and honestly, I think it's a good idea NOT to.

-Release Hollywood Tonight in some areas and Behind The Mask in others....then switch around

-Release a 30 minute TV special in the UK, Australia, US, Canada, Japan, France, China, and Spain

-Possibly release a special edition Michael

^^ I still think a deluxe edition with a bonus disc of all the original source material and mixes would be interesting. Being able to hear how much was there and how much was updated.

It's ok for them to admit to some being unfinished and demo tracks - they are what they are.

Michael Jackson and the man in the mirror.

When Michael Jackson stared in the mirror did he see what the rest of the world did?
Did he know how he was viewed? For someone who literally grew up under the constant gaze of the public, did he know they regarded him? Was it the behaviour of Michael the star that made people look, or did Michael's behaviour come from years of being subjected to intrusive gazes?

We've all heard the lost childhood excuse offered up by Michael and those around him. And while many are quick to dismiss it, there is no test case for how a child star should grow up. For many a child star, fame is fleeting. Rarely does the focus of the spotlight remain for a whole lifetime. But Michael was no ordinary star.

From the age of 10 he was in the public eye, and for several years before that his life consisted of school, rehearsals and performing, hardly the typical upbringing. And once the first sonically blissful notes escaped his lips on I Want You Back his life would never be normal.

The constant glare, the unrelenting demand of his talent would have to take its toll. And soon Michael may have had to learn to differentiate between the Michael he was, and the Michael Jackson the world knew. With his identity formed by publicists and the media the blur between reality and fantasy would forever be entwined.

But while many would be quick to point out Michael lost out to Michael Jackson the star, his behaviour may not only point to someone who was acutely aware of his image, but that he knew how to survive it. Perhaps by pushing the image to the hilt he could retain some sense of normalacy.

The media is quick to point to the the surgical mask, the high pitch voice, the costumes. But perhaps these were all just props that Michael used to cope with the pressure of being Michael Jackson. Many close friends have discussed how his voice wasn't as high pitched as the public persona, or how he would put on the mask to give the fans a bit of the "razzle dazzle". Maybe he knew the perception and played to it. Maybe he did so in order to survive it. By becoming "Michael Jackson" mask on and voice at the ready he could not only become the greatest entertainer in the world but more importantly when the mask came off and the public voice relaxed, he could simply become Mike - a normal, relatable guy shielded from the fame and craziness of celebrity.

Like a living superhero, maybe ditching the Clark Kent and donning the superman cape made Jackson bigger than life. Maybe it was how he coped with such amazing talent. Maybe it was also how he could switch off and be a great father, a great friend, a "normal guy".

Maybe the public persona was a necessity. And maybe all the crazy get up wasn't so crazy after all.

Maybe it was the one thing that helped him survive, thrive and continue to thrill.

VERY interesting post... i wrote an essay about the culture of idolatry in relation to michael, and the idea of 'double consciousness'. ultimately, our perceptions of him never allowed him to be human, because in the culture of idolatry one CANNOT be. it was at the point of the release of HIStory when the 'superhero' image began to crack- this is the first time since 1978 where he openly spoke in his art about being lonely and confused- when people said he was full of himself.

the concept of the larger-than-life statue battling with the lonely mortal is a truly compelling artistic endeavor, and truly, his moment of truth.

one of my favourite michael tracks of all time (as well as from the holland/dozier/holland catalog): the song was written by the holland brothers, and produced by brian holland.

the 45 edit, which propped up the bass and drums a little bit more, and had extra vocals; plus leaving some out. the edit is also a number of seconds longer than the album cut.

here is the album cut, where the percussion is a bit up in the mix. a phenomenal track indeed, where you hear the roots of the michael we all came to know, vocally.

============================

and here are my two favourite tracks from the 'regrooved' collection:
