"Free" Deniece Williams Vs. Chante Moore Which version do you prefer? Of course, I love Deniece's but I was really impressed with what Chante did with it. The way she added the Commodores' "Sail On" at the end really set it off for me. The best cover of the song I've heard.

Really nice vocal performance, but I'm not much feeling the drum track on Chanté's version. The song works far better as a groove than a bounce for me. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

Yeah, the drum track takes away from this song, wonderful vocals, another overproduced song. (IMO)

^ Agreed on the Chante cover.
I know it raised some eyebrows, but I liked Seal's version. It was actually my favourite track on the otherwise slightly underwhelming, if pleasant, Soul album.

I would have to agree that Chante's version, is a great cover, with Seal's being the worse. I love the way she uses her background vocals on that and on her version of, "I Want To Thank You", which is on the same album. If I have to vote, I'm giving the vote to Deniece Wiliams because I think her version is perfect.
If I had to pick a remake of the song, I'd pick this one over Chante's and Seal's.
Corrine's vocals are delivered so sweet and tenderly and Marcus Miller's bass is KILLER. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

I thought you were talking about Corrine Drewery. A Swing Out Sister version would be nice though. Niecy, but not because of the vocal performance only. Its because of the folks who played in the record, how the song was arranged and even recorded/mixed,,,,,,an earful orgy that couldn't be surpassed by anybody else IMO, no matter how good they are.

It took a while before I was able to appreciate Will's version. For years, I didn't like it at all but now I do.
I forgot about Juanita Daily's version. She did a fine job, also. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

I love Chante, and she was thorough with the remake of the Minnie Riperton song "Inside My Love" from the NY Undercover soundtrack, but I'm going with Niecy on this one. All day, every day, Niecy is the truth.
