Was anyone a fan of J.Lo's music back in the day?

...but now you look back and think, WTF was i thinking buying those???

i admit i was into her first 3 albums and remix album.

"aint it funny" remixed with flava in ya ear sample / ja rule was my jam back in the day. but then i realize ... the only album she ever did worth anything, was her first

this had the whole mellow / r&b / latin / pop thing going on but it felt more subtle, plus there were world class Latin stars like Marc Anthony and Gloria Estefan involved. In fact the song Gloria wrote was the 2nd best thing Jenny from the block ever recorded - "Lets Get Loud." That sweaty hot spicy number was the only time she ever seemed to ignite genuine passion as a singer. And "Waiting for Tonight" is the best thing she ever recorded. "If You Had My Love" is also a banger, and all these years later we can think what if that song were recorded by a REAL R&B diva, as it should been by Chante Moore...I also must be the only person in the world who likes her Gloria-Adult-AC inspired "Should've Never" and "Could This Be Love..."

"This was me...then" had some hot Sade-esque moments and there were a couple good tracks off "J.lo" but it's sad to see how such a promising debut (for dance/pop standards) has created such a throwaway pop career.

Anyone here...still a fan of hers??? (musically - i like her on AI but couldn't do more than 45 seconds of that "on the floor" mess).

I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

she had some hot tracks. I still LOVE the remix of "I'm Real" and I LOVE "Feeling so Good"

I bought her first two discs, yeah.

Her early stuff was really, really good. She had her moments in her later work, too ("Get Right").

Never liked many of her songs at all and her overexposure frustrated me. What I'm finding baffling is watching the new series of American Idol with people up to the age of 25 proclaiming that shes been an inspiration to them their whole lives.

Whole lives? What, a bunch of people in their mid 20s picked her out of that line-up of random Fly Girls and decided that she was an inspiration? Or are they just bullshitting?

They did the same when Paula was the judge, remember? I honestly think they get TOLD to say that. Honestly.

They did, didn't they? And yet now they have Steven Tyler on the panel and apart from one or two people, they're ignoring him and he legitimately could have been a childhood hero for some young (and old) adults.

I doubt they even know who he is. And I don't call it a generation gap anymore, I call it stupidity if you don't know who Steven Tyler is. lol

Yeah, back in the day she and Britney were the queens while Bey was still trying to get rid of DC lol

I think Play is her best song and video combination, I really can't believe Basic Milian wrote it (and mostly sings the chorus too, if you listen closely lol )

I love Waiting for Tonight and If You Had My Love as well. Feelin' So Good is OK but I love the choreography in the video. I think the whole "billion marriages" thing ended up killing her career, but Idol was a good move. She's on TV weekly now and is releasing a new single soon (which is good but not amazing, hopefully the video is good and she doesn't fall over in the performances lol )

No, they were not queens...I enjoyed their music, but they were far from it, they were just ear candy. Janet was still the queen and Madonna and the two were newbies and getting attention. They were full of Janet in their dancing, and a lot of critics were comparing J LO's music to old school Janet.

Um, please don't tell me my opinion is wrong, I don't have to think the same thing as you. I didn't mean in terms of talent or being established for a long time. I meant they were the two most popular female pop artists back then (1999-2002) without a doubt. I think J.Lo had the #1 single, album and movie at one stage.

after that, meh...not interested... average singles and crappy sound...

I wasn't saying it to put you down, I just think terms like that are thrown around too loosely. Even as soon as Ashanti came out, they were calling her Princess or r&b and same with Ciara. I find it insulting to those who had to work hard to get a title. Just my rant.

And yeah I remember that about J LO and The Wedding Planner, I enjoyed both.

I loved If You Had My Love, the Marc Anthony duet, Love Don't Cost a Thing, original I'm Real, original Aint It Funny, Play, Get Right, Cherry Pie. I didn't like Jenny from the Block at first, it sampled something in the 90's and I was annoyed, but it's cute now.

Lol, except what I said was the truth. Nothing to do with talent or hard work - simply the truth.

"BACK IN THE DAY she and Britney were the queens"

Emphasis was on THEN, not now. I know she's irrelevant now, I never said "She's still the most talented, most amazing super mega icon to ever walk the planet" I just said she and Brit were the big stars back then, no fucking shit. Idol will help a bit, but not unless her new album is really good.

Being a former fan of J.Lo's films, I decided to purchase her debut when it was all the rage,,,,,boy, was that a mistake. The broad can't sing her way out of a paper bag.

Now if we're gonna talk about Out Of Sight, thats a whole another conversation there love

...Not to jump in...

But, to be fair J.Lo was all over the place during her first few CD releases. You really couldn't turn on a music channel without seeing one of her videos.

Which, worked for me because I thought she was awesome lol .

I liked "Play" and a few other singles. Her image just went down the toilet around the time she released the "I'm Real" single with Ja Rule (the version without Ja Rule was pretty nice though). Never has a song with that type of a title seemed more fake. It was a bit odd that she went down that route, because she seemed to be quite humble about her singing career in the beginning judged by her public behaviour and her interviews.

She did fun pop music. Not every song has to be change-the-world music about heavy subject matter. Sometimes you need something fun to just take you away and give you a break from the harsher side of life.

I've heard worse voices by far - not to be a jerk, but while Dylan is hailed as a legend, he can't really sing - at all.

Not a fan, a casual listener. Janet was my girl, the others wished.
