Jive Drops Ciara? Word on the street is that pop/R&B singer Ciara has been dropped from Jive Records after struggling with album sales for her fourth studio album ‘Basic Instinct’, which has sold between 40,000 and 50,000 so since its debut in December 2010. Apparently her single “Turn It Up” featuring Usher was scheduled to hit the radio airwaves on March 8th but was later pulled for some reason:
On the other hand, it is also rumored that she has been visiting the Universal Records offices and may be in talks with Interscope Records about a possible deal…

Her deal is up anyway, she is probably shopping around for a label that actually might make it through 2011. "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

I didn't know Jive still existed. The last record I bought from them was Code Red by Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince in the early 1990's. I mostly remember Jive Records from Billy Ocean and Whodini records from the 1980's. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Those were the best. I remember seeing an interview with Whodini in the late 90's after they signed with So So Def and Jalil referred to Jive Records as Jive Ass records. Don't laugh at my funk

Jive Records still exist. They're part of BMG.
And by now, we all know Sony Music Entertainment brought out the entire BMG catalog.

That's probably similar to what James Brown thinks about Polydor and Run-DMC about Profile. Micky, where have you been? Britney, Nsync, R Kelly and Backstreet were all on Jive "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

I know Tribe Called Quest felt the same way about Jive too. QTip said their record deal was so bad it created a lot of stress. I know Jive originally was distributed by Arista during the Billy Ocean-Whodini days and by the time Tribe got on they were distributed by RCA. [Edited 2/8/11 21:15pm] Don't laugh at my funk

I've never listened to any of them, so don't know what label they were on. I do like that song N*Sync did with Nelly and maybe a couple of others. The only Britney Spears song I've heard is Toxic. Backstreet, don't know. I've never paid attention to R. Kelly. I like She's Got That Vibe, and that's it. The only time I hear the radio is if I'm in a car with someone else, or it's on at work or in a store. If I happen to turn it on, it's only the oldies station or maybe jazz or classical. I just cant get into Ciara anymore. I lost interest after "Promise" came out. She just can't find her own sound. Pussy poppin on stage and doing "the matrix" will only get you so far
