Well, James was basically a singles artist so his album tracks tend to be overlooked. It doesn't help any that there are ten million compilation albums yet most of his albums are out of print.

Hip O Select is doing a great job with compiling all of his singles, many of which are fairly rare, but hopefully his entire catalog will be released on cd. It's kind of frustrating that with Elvis it seems like every ten years or so his entire catalog gets re-released but with James it seems like we just get the same fifty or so songs recycled over and over. I'll stop now because I could really go on a rant.

True! Hip-O Select has been doing an excellent job with getting James Brown's catalogue back in print and where it can be easily accessible now than before. His catalogue deserves to be preserved just as counterparts such as Elvis or Johnny Cash.

James is considered a R&B act, and record companies tend to ignore R&B/soul/funk for the most part (except maybe in Japan). You can find albums of all kinds of pop, country, and rock acts on CD, but R&B is usually out of print other that greatest hits compilations.

True, classic R&B, soul and funk is what these big retailers they are not gonna put their focus on, unless you go to Japan or your best local record/CD shop (mines is Dusty Groove).

Was a BIG, big hit when the album / single was dropped in '71, you couldn't have a line dance and not play "Blue & Pants" or "Hot Pants".

James recorded several versions of "Hot Pants", I'm not sure if the original single is on either of those Cd's listed in the links.

The first one featured his best 1970s material, including rare tracks by his associated artists, all from original vinyl. Many of these have never been reissued.
