I think the ones that complain about the MJ sticky should really participate in it because maybe the thread will shift more to discussions than just posting pictures and talking about how cute Michael was. [Edited 2/7/11 17:49pm]

That's what keeps them from posting there.

LOL I know but maybe if they go in it and post something it might start a CHANGE

Yeah I hope they do. | |

Pictures are cool. I don't go in there because it's like MJJC with the same old griping about Randy, Joe, the Jackson family are evil, exploiting Mike's kids, fake songs, etc. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

SHIT we do that on the non-sticky threads. I don't think they're evil but they sure got a few loose screws concerning, well, how should I put this lightly, their careers and their bodies if you know what I mean.
Honestly there's really nothing to talk about BUT the music. And that usually gets ignored. Ask LittleBLUECorvette and bboy, they'll tell you.

no it was at last by etta james... our wedding had a 1930s feel to it... We did play Adore for our cake cutting and the last song was Diamonds and Pearls only b/c our theme of our wedding was Diamonds and Pearls and Butterflies. Butterfly kisses made me cry too much ever since it came out. Besides, the song was thought of as a father/daughter dance but my dad didn't want to dance with me so I cut that out. Um... let me warm up my vocals

This song should have been in Human Nature and Lady In My Life territory. Don't laugh at my funk

yup. | |

frankly, i agree with ALL your points. i think michael was about more than his looks, but i also think he was about more than his music. i think there are many elements you can discuss pertaining to him. and i wouldn't say the family represents a bastion of evil; i do think they are surrounded by evil, dark energy though.
you could speak about the universal laws pertaining to michael. you could speak about philosophy, politics, literature, marketing, engineering, the nature of work... a whole range of subjects. he meant different things to different people. i don't think that should be relegated to one place. it's too limiting for our sensibilities.

Butterflies is just a great song. And everybody I knew loved that cut. Michael's vocals were strong especially on the Ballads of Invincible...and I heard at the time he put extra work and extra vocal training specificcally for the ballads to get em just right and to get that richer tone. A Break of Dawn, Butterfles, and Heaven Can Wait...really have some smooth vocals and soulful.

I love the multiple covers thing. In the 60s it was done all of the time. Example - I Heard It Through The Grapevine. Google that song and see how many people covered it back in the day. Why? Songwriters and labels were getting that money multiple times on a single song work effort. Not so much weird as greedy.
It also could be a bit of respect being offered when you covered a song back then.

Damn i almost didn't recognize you with the new avatar. You're dead on man. This was a very slept on album. I can't believe critics and even some orgers here who try to say this album wasn't good. GTFO. The album may have a few cuts that are average but man the majority of this album is hot. Like you said Micheal did his best work ballad wise on this album since Lady In My Life and vocally he was at the top of his game on these ballads. The fact that i don't listen to this album but maybe once every other month or so makes me appreciate it even more. I know after watching This Is It with a few family members and freinds a couple of them asked my about the song that was playing in the background which was Threatened. I said i have that on cd and i let them listen to it and they went crazy. They were like damn i never heard it before and one asked to make them a copy of that cd and he told me that he couldn't believe how good the cd actually was. Of course Michael was always unfairly held to the Thriller standard.

it's like all those youtube comments, where people talk about how they want to RAPE him. i mean, come ON! people did this when he was around, and i STILL see those comments to this day. it's disturbing. sure, he looks fine, but DANG, yo. let us remain about what he meant to us artistically, philisophically or whatever.
the same goes for people who have death wishes for bashir, arviso and whoever else. i've had to call people out on some of this stuff. again, it's disturbing.

Yeah man I changed my avatar for a bit hahaha. And well said Phunk!!!...Love his vocals on those tracks as well as "Don't Walk Away" a lil sappy to some but alot of soul in those vocals there. The CD couldve been shorter...but there is truly some great moments on there. Mike never lost that magic.

Oh yeah and I love that part in This Is It when threatened comes on. That is a head bopping moment and funky. lol. When I saw it with friends we were all moving at that part!!

tim, i LOVE you! (and not in a romantic way- that's impossible since i don't even KNOW you). i'm starting a fan club for you. either that, or there needs to be an appreciation page. because you have some classic quotes, my man. the 'tim keeps it real' page. HA!
this is all in fun though. i'm just letting you know you always have good things to say. i think a lot of people do here. SHAMON! [Edited 2/9/11 2:16am]

and 'don't walk away' is AMAZING! it's not sappy at all.

i CAN'T go on there most of the time because it crashes my computer, if i wanted to respond to something. i think those conversations are warranted, but yeah, some of it is distracting.

On the topic of MJJC, I had a lot of forums that I went to I used to moderate MJJF (now MJJC) so yeah I know FIRST HAND how it can get (had to delete some weird ass posts in my time) but really the mod life wasn't for me. :lol:Mike fan for 24 years and kickin tho.

i love michael with all my heart, but yeah, i can't really talk to the fan community. i get a lot of grief from them. i refuse to think the man is perfect. he is a man, not GOD.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
me too and yeah i agree. I think Casey(militant) got u on here right? This is a great place to be at it's more relaxed most of the time (altho there are moments) but yeah i prefer this over the vbe of mike forums.
So on the topic of Butterflies...what's everyone's favorite moment in this song? Mine gotta be the "just make my dreams come true oh baby u give me butterflies" part.

he certainly did bring me on here... some nice people on this site. i told him that the prince community was much nicer to me than the michael community- much more open-minded and friendlier in my experience of being with them, and he said to go on this site, so i did. despite michael's message of love and acceptance (and the fan base saying they reiterate it) those people are too full of hate/vitriol for my taste.
even though i am more partial to michael (he is my favourite artist in all of the world, him and STEVIE WONDER (who comes first)), i really enjoy being around prince people.
about butterflies, wow... it's really hard for me to decide. i am absolutely in love with the whole song. you hear the anger/frustration, heartbreak, hopefulness and resignation, all at once. it sounds like love, only how michael could do it. everything about it- the breaths he takes, the accent on certain words... it just all comes together. love was a very painful experience for him, in terms of finding it. this is what i hear when i listen to him.
wow. i really don't know. all i know is that he consistently brings me to this place i cannot explain, at least on a forum such as this. much of that place is very painful actually. at the same time it's theraputic. this is how i feel about 'butterflies', amongst his other songs.

I don't think so, either.
I've always felt that way about Speechless and never really understood that adoration for that song. How most fans felt about Speechless, is how I felt about Heaven Can Wait and Butterflies. "I don't think you'd do well in captivity." - random person's comment to me the other day
