she had some hot tracks. I still LOVE the remix of "I'm Real" and I LOVE "Feeling so Good"

Was I'm Real the one she did with JaRule? I wasn't a fan of either but i did

like that song. It was nice and breezy to listen and chill in the ride

during that summer.

I always liked her and her music. I never considered myself a fan though. She kinda lost me after the N word circus.

This used to be my jam.

Absolutely. What was she thinking? She was trying to gain some street creditiablity for using that word but we all know she moved away from the Bronx the moment the she got the gig to be a 'flygirl'.

I was a fan of her music I knew she couldnt sing but she could dance and she happen to be at the right place at the right time hence the latin explosion in 1999. I always believed she owes her career to the late singer Selena.

She lost it for me when she became a tabloid queen because of her divorces and her romance with Ben Affleck. It did overshadow her music career.

I agree. She's still trying to recover from it.

I think anything that qualifies as over 10 years ago is 'back in the day'

Nah. Back in the day is Purple Rain. Back in the day is Saturday Night Fever. Back in the day is Thriller or the "Punky Brewster" or Run DMC ruling the hip-hop landscape. 1999 (the year Jennifer Lopez "the singer" debuted) may as well have been yesterday.

Lol... I'm glad someone else said this, as I was mortified to find that the late-90s/early-00s now counted as 'back in the day'! lol

I'd give the OP a piece of my mind, but I can feel a nap coming on... grandpa

When you were 9-12 yrs old during 1999-2002, it feels like "back in the day" lol

I was 9-12 in the first half of the 90's, but even that and what I remember from the 80's does not feel old school much. Times before I was born feels old school to me.

Why are you personalizing everything? I know it's cause of your age, I'm talking about people in my age group. People would get annoyed with me too for calling music of their time old school when I was young, trust me.

wave Um, I have her first cd and quite liked it at the time! "Let's get loud" pretty much was my favourite! Haven't listened to it in years though! I was mostly puzzled by the fact that someone sitting in the background of one of Janet's video suddenly was becoming a bigger star than Janet.

You really tried that.

Oh you again... LOL I knew that either you or seanman would jump on that, but whether you like it or not, with her being a singer and an actress, back in the day ('99 'til '01) she got more exposure, was more written about and got more attention than Janet. Of course though, she was a fad and nowadays no one is really talking about her anymore!

I do remember her getting more hype too, but I also saw janet influence all over her and thought she was another nice dance artist, but queen? yeah freaking right!

lol I was just about to be all over that comment. The media wasn't used to seeing a non-black woman with that big an ass but she was yet another artist who was HIGHLY influenced by Janet that got more media props than J herself. shake

Right. It wasn't until years later that she admitted that the video for The Pleasure Principle was what inspired her to get into the industry in the first place.

She talked about Pleasure Principle during the MTV Icon days, and I remember them mentioning her video during 2000 on music channels.

1980-1993 is back in the day

1994-1997 is transition, random years

1998-2006 is yesterday

2 B honest, now that I think about it...the whole R&B hype from the late '90's brings back great memories!

Yes, I liked J.Lo, especially the R&B songs/remix stuff....not so much Let's get loud or Waiting for tonight.

I'm still amazed how quick her music carreer went downhill because she really was on top...also in Europe. My fav: Jenny from the block and Love don't cost a thing.
